Antibiotics?

My doctor prescribed nitrofurantoin for my bladder infection that was caused by a catheter. I told him I was feeding my son breastmilk and it turns out...The instructions stated not to breastfeed a child under one month. So, I've been pumping and pouring the milk out. There was only a 4 day prescription so I figured I would just finish it out, knock the infection out, and then get back to storing my milk.

Well.....It's been 4 days and I have 1 pill left, and I'm still having pain with urination. Should I wait and see if the antibiotics start working or go ahead and call and ask for another antibiotic?

He also prescribed something called phenazopyrdine, but the instructions said it is for pain associated with a bladder infection. I still have a few of those pills left as well.

Thanks for any input! I'm ready to feel better...

Only FOUR days?! For an infection?! It should be 10 if I'm not mistaken

Depends on the strength of the antibiotics. A z pack is 6 or 7 days.


Anyways op your pain during urination could also be from the catheter being in.

I had a bladder infection a week or so before I had the catheter(without even knowing I had one, until after the shots the next day). I had 2 shots of antibiotics in the butt and sent on my way. So, after the catheter...I had no pain while peeing until I got home from the hospital 2 days later and I can definitely tell the bladder infection is back. :/
