Your kids helping in the kitchen

posted 20th Dec
My LO wants to help me cook/bake at all times. He gets very offended if I say no.
This weekend we are going to make:
Milk chocolate and dark chocolate covered pretzels
Peppermint bark
Chocolate covered raisin clusters
Chocolate covered Rice Krispies

He's so excited lol.
Do your kids like to help you or would they rather play while you do everything?

They love to help. It can be a battle at times because they want to do each other's job.

They help 99% of the time when I bake. They are very good about taking turns and sharing tasks. And are very disappointed the few times I haven't included them.

That's good. I hope when/if I have other kids he is good with them. He gets a little selfish when it comes to helping me. If anyone else tries he yells at them lol

We bake often, so that might have something to do with it. At least once or twice a week...

Are you making the pretzels with him? If yes, how old is he? Because those are something I personally would do solo.

I'm kinda torn. I know he would love it but it tends to get messy and I like to work quickly with it

My almost 3 year old always wants to cook with me. Sometimes I pull a chair up to the counter and let him "help". As he starts to get older I'll let him do more. He just makes messes or gets mad when I say "all done" and try to put things in the oven.

Do you let him pour and stir?

It depends on what I'm pouring in. He mostly stirs!

He might be better about being all done, if he can do more. It takes more time of course, but dumping the measured ingredients is my LO's favorite part and then stirring. The liquids and cup measure or brown sugar I do hand over hand. I don't know. It might keep him from getting upset when it's time to bake.

My 2 year old is really excited about cooking, I put a chair up to the counter a good distance from the stove and give her small tasks like stirring and tasting.
Plus it keeps her busy when shes hungry! lol

It honestly depends on what I am making.....if there is a lot of chopping or smoething (with making dinner) I make her wait out of the kitchen until I am done prepping. Then I let her come in. And she helps me bake unless I am using hot sugar (making caramel or toffee for example).....I do not want her anywhere near that smurf.
