My ex Mother in Law! Grrrr

posted 19th Dec
My ex MIL told my 5 year old daughter, that Jesus loves her more than I do. It bothered me. I know that Jesus loves her, and God is love but why would you say that to a 5 year old? What would you do?

because thats what religious people believe...that god and jesus love more than anyone and that you should love them more than anyone also...it would piss me off but that's because I'm an atheist.

I tell that to my son, he knows that. He is 4 and doesn't have a problem with it. He has a kids bible and I read it to him, he understands why God loves him more than anyone, including me.

We don't believe in Jesus, so it wouldn't hold much weight.

You tell your kids that Jesus loves them more than you do?

I tell my kids that Jesus loves them, and we pray. But to tell them God loves them more than me or Dad seems wrong. Jesus loves you differently, seems better. Jesus loves you forever, he knows how many hairs you have on your head, and loves every single pieces of you, good and bad. Seems better.

I just felt like she was trying to but another barrier between my daughter and I. "Jesus loves you more than your Mom does". Thanks for your help ladies. I guess I must be over reacting.

Are you sure she didn't say, Jesus loves you more than anybody, including, me, mom, dad, etc. It sounds to me like she was expressing how much you love your daughter, but Jesus' love surpasses even that. Not to create a barrier.

Boobook, I wasn't there, but my daughter told me, and she didn't understand. She whispered it to me when she came back from their house. My ex was extremely abusive to me and his Mother he abuses too. She is very religious and protective of her son. She lives with him, and she doesn't like me, even when she lived with us. She would always say things like, "If you would clean the house better, he wouldn't have to hit you."

I want my daughter to know Jesus loves her, I just don't want her to question the strength of my love.

Oh wow, there never a reason for a man to hit a woman. I take it his mother was abuse growing up, because that sounds like something a woman would say who been abuse for a really long time. And I completely understand you not wanting your daughter questioning your strength of love for her. How ever you choose tell her its completely upto you. Everybody does it differently , just depends on how you feel she should know certain things do with Jesus and love you feel for her.

I choose to tell my son that God loves him more than I do because that is how I see it. I tell my son that I love him soo soo much and to imagine that God loves him even more, he is just amazed and thankful for being so loved and doesn't question my love for him.
