Quoting kthx.:" When he proposes with a ring. I'm worth a ring... not just a measly question and voila, engaged. Marriage should be a lot more serious than that.. IMO, at least."

Sometimes two peoples love means more than a silly piece of jewelry.

And to me, it's crucial. I don't care if it's $100 or $1k. When I was thinking about marriage with the guy I was dating for 4 years, I told myself the ring wasn't important. None of it was important. But in reality, I'm WORTH that extra effort. And I won't settle for SO just being like, "Marry me" with no ring. If I'm not worth the time and effort for him to get a ring and propose, he isn't worth my 'yes'. Thankfully, SO knows not to propose without a ring

And it's not about money. You can get a ring from the pawn shop or at freakin' Walmart for under $100. It's the thought... and I believe every woman is worth at least that.

Eh - I think it's silly and doesn't really prove anything. Doesn't give any more validity to the "commitment" being made.

Sure, it's nice - I love my wedding set - but I just fail to see how it adds any validity? lol

I considered being engaged when my husband asked me. I had no ring. I have no ring now and I am married. I hate wearing jewelry never wanted a ring.

I guess if I thought your way I wouldn't be married my now husband.

We decided we were going to get married. He looked at me fom the other couch and said "will you marry me". I laughed and said yes of course but we already decided we were going get married. That was the fall of 2009 and we were married the falling summer.

Our love was more important then a ring. Still is a ring is just show.

When two people decide to get married-we didn't do a proposal or any of that (to me) silly traditional stuff, but I also didn't walk around exclaiming "we're engaged!" or anything, either.

Nothing to do with rings to me, at all.

When two people have a mutual agreement to make a commitment through marriage.

That could happen when one person spontaneously proposes for the others hand in marriage and they accept. It could also happen when two people both decide together "okay, we are getting married."

There doesn't have to be a ring involved, IMO.

He knows how.. because you told him? lol. It can't mean that much if you have to tell him that it's a requirement.

Using your logic though, he shouldn't be the guy to marry... you weren't "worth" a ring the first time...
