Milk drying up?
posted 19th Dec
My son is 3 weeks today and last night he was up for almost 5 hours! And all h wanted to do was eat but I felt like I wasn't producing enough milk because he was constantly hungry. I'm exclusively BF but I do pump as well because we're visiting my husbands family and my hubby likes to have that feeding time with our son as well I had no problems pumping or BF I started pumping mainly because my boobs would get so sore that I just couldn't stand it anymore. I doubt being cold had anything to Do with it. It's snowing where I'm at at the moment (were in NM but were from Cali) Well I went to pump some milk out today and could only get 1.5oz with both boobs combined! He's been eating fine since 5 this morning and I HAVNT had a problem but I'm now worried that my milk could be drying up already and I dnt want to put him on formula. Suggestions, input, advice. Has anyone else been threw this?

He can get milk out a lot better than a pump. Just let him nurse whenever he wants. Its supply and demand, so that's really important. Also make sure you're drinking A LOT of water and eating properly. If you feel like you need to boost your supply, you can eat oatmeal.

It doesn't sound like you're drying up, it just sounds like your milk is starting to regulate and maybe he's going through a little growth spurt. Just keep doing what your doing and DO NOT give formula!

This is a very common growth spurt time. He is cluster feeding and the more you latch him and he eats the more he signals your body to produce more milk. Breastfeeding can be exhausting and seem never ending in the beginning. As long as he is still having wet diapers and BMs then keep doing what you are doing!

Thats what breastfed babies do, its normal. I used to sit down at 7, start feeding her, and not get up again till after 11 at the earliest.
Thats just the way pumping goes, too. Sometimes you'll be like a milk machine, sometimes you'll hardly get a drop.
Your supply is fine, just give him boobywhen he wants it.

Oh thank god. Lol I was freakung out cause its never happened before. Right after posting this he woke up like 10 minutes ago and all the sudden my boob has milk lol. Thanks ladies. I knew it was supply n demand but I just never had this problem I've always been able to get at least 2 ounces. And I like to have it especially now cause we're doing a lot of traveling good to know I'm not empty haha
