Christmas Packaging

posted 19th Dec
If you buy things that you know your child will like do you keep it in all of it's packaging? Or do you take it out and put it in a box or something else?

I hate packaging. I always hated waiting for things to be open etc. So IF LO toys are bought I unpackage them and put them in a box. (MIL has a smurf ton of boxes that she saves...)

Most of the time a lot of his toys are made by us anyways.. so the few things I got to compliment ours like a children doctor scrub set, walkie talkies, wooden animals, harmonica, are already to be played with in a box.

We leave everything in its original package. The stuff 'Santa' brings however is unwrapped, and out of the package ready to play with.

I takethings out, get all the annoying plastic ties off, add batteries if needed, and rewrap in an easy to open box

i don't unpackage anything.
althoguh i always thought it would be more magical if they were unpackaged and wrapped in boxes instead. just seems like that's how Santa would do it. lol
my 6 yr old doesn't even ask about why her gifts are packaged though.

The only time we took something out of the packaging is when we got DS a play kitchen. DH set it up the night before.

I haven't taken things out of the packages, but we are this year. Well, at least a few things, they will keep him occupied until we can un package the few other toys.

I would start on it now. It took us 4 hours to put a doll house together. I'm really glad we didn't wait til christmas eve.

It took me 3+ hours to build a kitchen set for Cora 2 years ago. Thank god she was at her dads and I could work on it while she was there. I just covered it with a blanket when she got home xmas eve

i leave it in the original packages. but her "main/big" gift is normally unwrapped and opened because it has to be assembled. This year she got a baby crib for her baby dolls so i assembled it and put a huge bow on the front of it

I always leave it in the package just in case something has to be returned. Plus it seems like it'd be easier to wrap packages.

I always unpackage everything & try it out, make sure it works, put it together if needed & then wrap it up - even gifts for other people. If it needs to be returned for not working, I NEED to know as I shop ahead & by Christmas it is sometimes too late for returns. :/ I also pass everything I buy for kids past their parents first anyway (always have done it this way) as I don't want them stuck needing to return things after Christmas due to duplicates & such, so I prefer to find out ahead of time what they want/need or have & then shop accordingly than deal with it. I hate the hassle of needing to do returns personally so I try to avoid anyone else getting stuck doing it. I hate the mess of my kids opening gifts from other people then & being stuck there without any tools trying to get them out of the boxes with all the twist ties, zip ties, trying to put in batteries with those silly little screws, etc. It' s a PITA. LOL I finally wizened up this year & have decided to carry the diaper bag during Xmas with some snacks, drink boxes, a small pair of scissors, lots of batteries, a small screw driver set, etc. That way my kids aren't freaking out they got something they really wanted & have no batteries for it. It's worked out great.
