Confronting a bad attitude, help me.

How would you discuss your SO/ DH having a bad attitude/ being "grumpy?"

I know SO has been tired recently, he picked up an extra day at work, and we've been remodeling a room in our house. So I don't want to be a bitch by pointing out that he has been acting absolutely miserable towards me and the kids. He won't play with them, doesn't answer DS even when he's said "Daddy" 10 times in a row. If I ask him a question, more than half the time he will kind of side glance towards me- which means he heard me- then just won't respond.
When he does respond it's with a grunt or something of that nature.

Then this morning he lost the car keys. I told him they weren't where they always are, and he started yelling over the phone "That's where I always put them! If they're not there, then I don't know!" And I tried to calmly say to him "Where else did you sit?" And he just kept repeating himself, over and over, that they were on his desk. And if they weren't there he didn't know.
He couldn't even "hear" me asking where he sat.

I'm exhausted. I've gotten as little sleep as him, and have been working on the remodel more than him. The only difference is I stay home with the kids while he heads out to work. I'm to the point of crying myself from being so tired, so I know how he probably feels.

What would you say in a situation like this? We're both so worn out that I can;t even think of a way to speak to him about his attitude without immediately throwing out insults. Ugh.

We both do   We don't know why he decided to take the extra work day. We're trying to rush the remodel so we can get our Christmas tree put up. so it's just a few more days before we can sit the hell down, lol.
