single, sick child

Mostly a vent...

I picked my kids up from their father at seven thirty tonight... And he tells me the youngest has had a fever all day and she threw up. Great, thanks again... For no notice. I'm a nurse, supposed to work at eleven. I feel smurffy calling in to work that late.. but no choice.

Get home, she won't take any medicine. None of my tricks worked, and i can't hold her down alone. By midnight, her temp was 103.8 under her arm. stressed , trying to decide if i should wake 3 school age kids to take her to er an hour away. Mix some cherry tylenol in cherry soda, she took about half... Temp came down briefly to 102.7, now back up to 103.9. Smurf!

I have no one to help. i have my alarm set for hourly so i can either stay awake, or wake up to check on her.

I'm tired, worried, and hate this smurffy town where i have no help, support, er,

Ok, done ranting... Going to take another temp,

Can you ask her dad to take her?

As hard as it would be on the kids, might be best to wake them up and take her to the er. Especially if her temp keeps going up. Praying she feels better.

No... He's never answered the phone when i call

Temp down to 101.8. I'm ok with that. She's sleeping. I'll take her to clinic in morning.

My so already called into work for tomorrow so he could help with her while i get some sleep. He lives an hour away, and had already taken sleeping pills when i texted about her temp.

Almost 4.

Was a vent. She's ok.. It sucks, but her breathing is fine, and temp is where I'm comfortable. Temp kills virus/bacteria, keeps them from multiplying. I just don't like it over 104.

Last check was 102.7, under her arm, so watching her closely again.
