Sending your kid back to school?
posted 18th Dec
I'm not sure if you've seen the news lately (Just google it) but there was what it seemed like a threat from a possibly armed man in Newtown, when the kids returned to school the past monday, 17th. How do you feel about this? I don't have kids in school, but I honestly don't know how I'd react with so much violence lately and especially threats!
How do you feel about sending your kid to school after all of this? One of my dear friends in Ohio just filled everything to take her little girl out of normal school and she'll start being homeschool next january.
I can't believe what the world's becoming

I refuse to live in fear. My kids went to school. Kids die all the time, I'm not going to let my kids live what could be their final days, in fear. That's a waste of a life.

I find comfort in statistics
I would still send Cora to school. I am not capable of homeschooling, nor would i want to.
Cora has a better chance of being hit by lightening AND run over by a bus at the same time than she does of being killed at school

I feel fine with sending my dd back to school. The next mass killing could be anywhere, if people are keeping their kids out of school out of fear, I hope they are also keeping them away from the mall, no movies, no restaurants, no walking down the street. It's not schools that are dangerous.

I think that if the only reason you are homeschooling is to shelter them....than you have a rather rude awakening coming. We simply cannot shelter our children from tragedies. They will happen. We just have to do our best with what life throws at us.

I don't live in fear. I have to go to work everyday and these protesters are ridiculous but that doesn't stop me from going about my day.
I believe in my kids school system, they know what they are doing and take proper precautions.

I would still send my son to school. Everything we do on a daily basis could end in tragedy. I'm not going to stop driving on the small chance something terrible could happen, so i wouldn't pull my kid from school for something that's even more unlikely.

with everything going on i dont want my kid going to school but i know its best for her academically and socially.. shes in kinder and 3 times this year they put the school in lockdown (all for precausionary issues but none the less)
im more scared of pedophiles on the street then her getting killed or shot at school..

I don't have any kids in school, but if I did I would probably be waiting to send them back until after Christmas break. My niece and nephew went back and I'm nervous all day about it. They do have police at their school though, so that makes me feel a little better.

we got lucky.. friday was the last day before a 3 week winter break.. you could just see the fear in parents eyes picking thier kids up..

I refuse to teach my kids to live in fear.
And the "possibly armed guy" only had a umbrella...

A man in my town threatened to light his wife on fire ( an elementary school employee) and then go to her job and kill as many people as he could before being apprehended. Unfortunately for him he made these threats the morning of the Newtown tragedy. When he was apprehended he had 47 guns and ammunition worth around $100,000 dollars in his home.
My daughter is in 4th grade at the school he threatened to shoot up.
The police are now calling it a domestic dispute and an idle threat. I just can't believe that they hit him so hard and then retracted it. He is in jail now, but making the statements they did on the news almost make it appear okay to make threats like that. It's bullsmurf.

That's pure ignorance if you believe that. Comfort in statistics is sticking your head in the sand.
