Maternity leave

Here is the case:
I am the main worker in my household. I work 40 hours a week, 4 10 hour days. My fellow just started a new job but only gets like >15 hours a week. Plus he has to pay child support out of his income, so in the end there isn't much left.

I am due at the end of next month with my first child. In preparations for her I have already gotten all of the bills covered for this month and with the exception of the water bill, all the bills covered for next month. I will have the water bill paid before January.

Also knowing I was pregnant, I gave my sister enough money to cover my bills for February because I know the baby will be here by then. (I don't always trust myself with money, so I gave it to my sister to hold onto for me). In February I will get a small income tax refund which will be enough to cover my March bills.

Another factor is my job itself. I do not receive paid maternity leave. My owners are really nice and have allowed me to take maternity leave whenever I want. But my concern with my job is that I am the ONLY one there. I work at a video lottery place. I stay in a building by myself for 10 hours a day waiting on customers. Some days it is hours between customers. I am concerned about going into labor while at work. There would be no other employee to relieve me and I am not allowed to close down the place.


So since I have my bills taken care of when should I go on maternity leave?

I didnt go untill i delivered that gave me more time at home since we dont get paid leave either
