Tracking device in

The extremely old? I mean dementia or alzhiemers.
My papa is 87 and has dementia. A huge fear of ours is that he will wake up and go for a walk and freeze to death because he is lost.
All of the family has to be ok with it. And only family can find the persons whereabouts. And only for people who are so far gone, them getting lost is a legitimate fear.
What are your experiences or opinions?
This is purely hypothetical. I haven't read anything like it. Just thinking.

I think if it gets to that point, the person just needs to be in an assisted living place. Where someone is always watching to make sure they're ok.

Would be a good idea, but everyone has to be 100% on board with it.

Someone who has Alzeheimers or dementia that severe should be in a nursing home IMO

I think it's a really good idea. A few months ago a woman living in a nursing home around here got out of her room (her caretaker turned the alarm off because it was too annoying   ) and the woman drowned in a creek.

I agree! My grandpa had Alzheimer's, and it wasn't safe for him to be home alone.

Does your family know what his insurance covers? I think Medicare pays a little for nursing homes (not sure), and there are private insurance policies that specifically cover nursing home expenses.

All of it was hypothetical besides him having dementia. They have the money for it. My gramma is in one because of a stroke. And my uncle who can't find work is going to move in. Hes already primary care taker.

While I think the best option is always an assisted living center, I think caring for a family member with severe Alzheimer's or Dementia is possible if the entire family is willing to work at it.

I think a tracking device might be a good idea. Are we talking an ankle bracelet type thing? I think something like that would be great.

Yeah. Something they can't get away from or take off

Heh, I can see some of my clients messing around with their ankle bracelets - it might confuse them, but it is something to consider.
