It's my responsibility. I don't want others talking with my children about sensitive subjects. I'd rather go about it my own way and I also want it to hear it from me. I DO think its great that schools offer counseling for students after tragedy.

These smurfs don't know that I am going to completely trash them on this at the next Emergency Meeting.

We meet with all different disciplines (police, fire, ems, Behavior Health, hospitals, LTC's) preparing and planning for things like this and how to react.

We actually meet at the Sandy Hook firehouse where the kids were being kept once they escaped the building.

This is far from over.
I am not letting this go.

Although they didn't bring it up today, do you think they will in the near future? Did they say what their plans were? I understood that all schools/teachers were discussing it with their children or maybe that's just in our area. Either way, I'm sorry she's having such a hard time and I'd definitely hold the school accountable for some counseling for Ash.

No, they have no plans to address it further.

Wow
I don't agree with that "action" at all. So they have no drills in place for emergency preparation for an intruder or whatever you want to call it?

I have not heard about any drills, that is a very good point.

I think I may have to call them back

absolutely the parents responsibility and then the school should make resources available to assist the parents.

Unfortunately, I think a game plan should take place just like they do fire drills, storm drills, etc. Just add this one to the list

So yeah, I'd focus on them crying wolf today and then their lack of plans in the future. Both are unacceptable, IMO.

Definitely dig into it. You'd think they would be hard at work putting together a preparedness plan. I mean, they may still be numb from what happened, but they have a responsibility greater than themselves.

We were told to talk to our kids yesterday. Here's how my class handled it: http://forum.baby-gaga.com/about2405571.html. I haven't received a parent complaint yet. I don't think I will.

thank you.

I was referring to the 6-7 age group rather than older children which would in fact have a better understanding than a first grader.

Oh, ok. Yeah, only the intermediate grades had the discussion. Primary grades continued on as normal.
