Well, I mean, she is technically a nurse. She's a Licensed practical NURSE.

I'm not a nurse, but I am starting nursing school, and I really feel this is a common thought process. Just like you may find some BSN's look down on ASNs.

She is a nurse.

I don't know why you're grouping LPNs and CNAs together.

I guess in a sense that is right, but when I talks to her last because I asked her how she graduated so quickly and took her boards all within only 2 years of schooling. she replied with "I never took boards, I'm LPN certified."

In general I don't really care, but it's just one of those things that grinds my gears lol. I guess in my eyes it's like a nurse calling herself a nurse practitioner, different levels with different titles.

LPN IS a nurse....they just aren't allowed to do as much as RN's and get paid less. They are still nurses though. CNA is just a nurses assistant, so no they are not nurses. I have to get my CNA for a prerequisite to get my RN.

It's a common, superiority issue.

There are certain "ranks" in most peoples minds. CNA's, LPNs, ASNs, and BSNs. And then of course you know, nurse midwife, nurse practitioner.

I'm not saying LPN and CNA's are anywhere similar, but I just think without an RN - you're not technically a licensed nurse.

But regardless, a nurse is a nurse. It's like saying that a doctor who is only PC isn't the same as a doctor who is a neurosurgeon. They are both Dr's just have different amounts of schooling/education.

You're not a REGISTERED nurse, I agree, but, an LPN by NAME is licensed.

Mine doesn't either. But different states have different guidelines.

Here, if you are an LPN you get a special fast track, to your RN only lasting a year, compared to the two for your RN.

Yep, here they want you to have some kind of "field" experience before going into the nursing program.

I mean, I understand the mentality of what you are saying. It's annoying to you, that you are going through 2-4 years of schooling to become and RN, and your friend is clumping the term "nurse" into a broad group of professions.

But at the same time, her title alone, makes her a nurse. I mean, I'm going for my ASN, I don't plan on going around calling myself an ASN, I'll just be a nurse, or maybe an RN. KWIM?
