that's actually pretty awesome! benefits the students because they can apply for jobs with the LPN certification and continue in school for their RN. I wish schools in PA did that!

I have heard of that as well. How long does getting your LPN take? My mom has her BSN.

A year.

Well here, the only place that does LPN training lasts from September to June. So a school year. But it's literally like a schools day, 8 to 3.Lol.

I have a friend in school right now for her associates, she had to get her CNA this semester. Maybe it's differs depending if you do 2 years vs. 4 years??

My plan is to work as a CNA while waiting to get into nursing school, the wait lists are long as smurf out here.

I'm going for the ASN and it's not required for me. I just need to keep up on my CPR training. It's probably just different states, different schools kind of thing.

I guess in my eyes it's like a nurse calling herself a nurse practitioner, different levels with different titles. "</blockquote>

My school was only 2 years,   I can bridge easily to an RN program,
and who cares if she didn't take her boards, I wish I was able to skip them,...

Till u finish ur schooling and get ur lil florence nightengale, lamp at graduation and pass the state boards maybe u should get off the high horse, my husband failed out of rn program twice because he couldn't keep his smurf together long enough to pass peds... its humbling smurf to see classmates drop like flies...

I am a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia. No, LPNs do not have the same authority as an RN. There are very few things that they cannot do that a nurse can. They cannot administer blood products and cannot do original assessments and teachings for patients, etc. They do have to take a national exam that is very similar to the NCLEX. Do I consider them to be a nurse...absolutely. Do I consider a tech or a CNA to be a nurse....absolutely not.

This is my biggest fear. The nursing programs around here are SO competitive. And you will NEVER be guaranteed a spot. Lol.

yes! that's more of what I was trying to get across! that I have to bust my ass in almost 4 years of school, and pass my boards to get my title, and she went to school for less time. grrr. I hate the BSN program! I mean, I love it because I know what the outcome will be - but it's literally kicking my ass! took my last final today and I don't want spring semester to get here!

Lpn: *licensed* practical nurse

How are they not licensed??? They are issued a nursing *LICENSE*

I think her post was poorly worded, but I don't think she was trying to be negative.

Even once you get out of school, you will meet people IRL at your place of work, so look down on ASN's because they have their BSNs. It's a common mentality that one title is deserving of more respect then the other. KWIM?

I am going to get my ASN & then hopefully while I am working I can get my BSN. My mom did that & where you work usually will pay for you to go to school, they did for her any way. She has been a nurse for 27 years now.

are you telling me to get off my high horse? or just people in general? because you can plainly see I said in plan text "Not that I feel nurses are "better" in any way"

I'm struggling with my nursing classes as well.
