Potty Training Question.

posted 3rd Jun
My daughter is 19mo old. I don't think she is quite ready to start potty training yet, but I had a question.

My mom was telling me that when I was younger I only used the potty seat that went on the regular seat. [Example]
and she doesn't reccommend using the potty chair because its confusing to the child because then they get used to the potty chair and they will only go on that. [Example]
My question is... Do you agree that the potty chair is more confusing to the child or does it help them learn and adjust alittle easier?

I was going to buy a potty chair and atleast let her sit on it to get used to it, but now i'm torn. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Totally agree with your mom - I have 2 kiddos, a boy and a girl, and Inever used the potty chair. Itwill be SO much easier for you if you do the seat and just train them to the regulartoilet. Good luck!!

My son used the potty chair for about 1/2 a second. He actually just goes on the regular toilet. When he goes #2 his butt hangs down and it looks like he's going to fall in but he holds himself up. LOL

Both mine started potty training themselves on the pottychair when they were really little. (Little enough that they couldn't get on the big potty even with a step.) I guess what I'm saying is it depends on how big your child is when tey start. Neither of mine had problems transitioning from the chair to the seat when they were big enough to climb onto it with a step. I think one thing that helped was I had them help me put their stuff in the big potty when they were done.

well not in my case. My son graduated from the chair to the actual toilet. He even uses the chair tas a stool to get his tiny butt in the toilet..(its the convertible one ???).Im so proud..but gosh it took my son 3 yrs darn it!!...

Thank you ladies for your advice! It may be a month or so before I even start trying.

I think I will try the potty seat on the toilet first and I will go from there.

She is a stubborn little girl. I wonder where she gets it from! Ha

I don't expect this to be an easy task getting her potty trained. So I was just wondering what other Moms were doing as far as the seat vs the chair.

She really really really dislikes poop in her diaper so I think #2 won't be a huge issue getting her to go... or maybe it will... not sure yet. As far as her just being wet, that doesn't bother her. Not in her diaper anyway.

Thank you Ruthie!

*edit because I can't spell......

Oh don't mention it..... Your so welcxome.. I had potty training issues not even 2 months ago..Mr here thinks he's a baby and he is going to school rather soon and he better keep going with the potty training. Now the hardest thing is that when he is in the toilet he pees standing and he has no control over his "thing" so hepees all over the place and fguess who has to clean up?..uughhhh ME!   P

Maybe you can start emptying the diaper into the toilet with her and tell her that poop goes in the potty. It might help her connect the two things before you start.

Thats an excellent idea. Thank you! Any suggestions on how to get her to go pee pee? I know we haven't started yet, but how would you get a little one to go on the potty? She says to me "Uh no, Mom Mom". So she knows she went, but will it just come with time and me telling her to let me know before she goes?

I'm clueless on how to even start it.

Ok 1st let me say every child is different. That being said I did get one of those potty chairs but heres the cool thing the seat also would snap onto the toilet  now meg this was 8 yrs ago so I can't remember who even made the darn thing. I always started my reaction to the uh oh mommy.. did you pee pee? next time maybe we can give some to the potty...(and ever since I seen look whos talking I have sang pee pee in the pottyand did a lil dance like they did on that movie...lol Anyways with dd #1 and 2 the pretty panties worked (the ruffle butt rumba panties) you go pee peee on the potty we can go get you some pretty panties liek these and show her in the store..when she goes on the potty let her wear teh pretty panties now there are gonna be accidents so be prepared for pee pee on the floor ,but, positive reinforcment works great.. try not to get mad at her. (It can be so frustrating)Say well you can't pee pee in the pretty panties you have to wear these ugly pull ups when you pee pee your pants... you go pee pee in the pottty we can put your pretty panties back on(this was the one that my mom swears by cause it worked for me too) now my littlest dd liked to go hide behind something outside and pee outside like she is my rebel or something (this is one that usually works for boys) but it worked for her...she was like so what on the pretty panties...lol
Good luck!!!! Oh and buy a little green machine...lol

When you are drawing her a bath put her on the toilet with out her diaper. The sound of therunning water will help with her reflex of going. when she does go ( this is what I did with my son and daughter) clap be sooooo happy that she went potty! yay! at first if she does it she will probably look at you like your nuts but she will soon connect the dots. I am in the process of my son right now, and he started going poop first in the toilet, when we knew that he was going we would rush him into to bathroom and put him on the toilet. Because he hated the mess in his pants.
