My son is a little angel... until his daddy leaves for work. then he's a holy terror. and I mean, he gets totally out of control. That's all kids, I know, but something has to give, right?

You're right, The Bible says "Spare the rod spoil the child" and also says if you spoil the child, you hate him. (idk why they always say "him" but... you know) I do it as last resort, and I do both if it is to a point I absolutely cannot get him to mind. Or if he starts smartmouthing me. (I've gotten a few pops on the mouth for that... no lie)

I feel your pain! I have a three year old who is going thru his terrible twos and plus I think he is hyper active (it runs in the family). I am also 39 weeks pregnant and think some days I just cant stand him! I clean the house which is a major task at this stage and five min later it is destroyed and I get mad! I believe in spanking and as long as you know your own self control its not a problem! I am enrolling my son next year to a early child development class so he can get away and play with other kids. If you feel like you are going to blow a gasket just put him in his room and say you made mommy upset and just lock your self in a room for ten minutes and read, get on the net, scream, breath what ever will make you calm yourself and then go in there and tell him why you are upset and what he did wrong. It wont change his behavior forever but with my son he knows when I use a certain tone mommy is at her limits and he usually will back off for a little to make me relax! Good luck!

yeah my son knows, too. but he still don't ease up, he starts crying for Mammar (Mammaw...) which when SHE punishes him... it's "I want mama!" lol. I have had to make him to to his room and scream and cry it out, but sometimes it just doesn't work because he keeps yelling stuff at me... I get (the proper word would be butthurt?) upset easily... like, you can say bless you wrong and I'm in tears. idk why, that's just how I've ALWAYS been and it's worse with pregnancy. and idk why. but I'm def tryin to find other ways. I'll have to try that even more. definitely.

You sit there and get pissed when i say you have tantrums yet you sit here and admit that you get butthurt when your kid yells smurf at you from his room. You get butthurt by a 4yo. He rules your world so you throw fits. I feel bad for him.

You know what? I didn't post this to get smurf from other people, I posted it asking for help. Yes, I get a little irritated and hurt by what my child says... but it doesn't mean I throw a temper tantrum. Are you here when he acts how he does? I don't think so... so before you judge, don't. I'm not perfect, I'm human. I don't throw "tantrums" in front of my child. Never have, and never will. But I do get mad at some of the stuff he does. Big big BIG difference.

I am not here to start drama, or have some other people trying to start smurf with me talking smurf. All I wanted was some tips, not smurf talk about me and stuff y'all are all assuming. Seriously. So, I've made a few mistakes... are YOU perfect? Are YOU the one who can pass judgment on me?? I do NOT think so... so before you decide to try to pass a judgment on me, don't. Because you don't even KNOW me.

i think you need to take a step back and re evaluate your discipline methods. Not because you spank but because it is obviously not working. I have had days of pulling my hair out, my son is on the autism spectrum and some days there is a lot of screaming at my house. I have had to readjust my discipline methods when it doesn't seem like it is working.
Have you tried positive reinforcement? a reward chart? that may be what he needs, different things work for different children. Also i get the impression that he is feeding off of you, when you get upset he does worse
