Nope, not so much.

People can call each other whatever they want for all I care.

OH, he's 'smurftard'. "Cool, nice to meet you Smurftard".

There are plenty of couples who do have the legal title and still don't take it seriously. There are also couples who DON'T have the legal title and take their relationship more seriously than some legally married couples.

and how exactly did you earn it? Did you go through an obstacle course or take a class? Its marriage, not a damn educational degree.

Hahahahahaha! HA! That was such a killer analogy. I totally laughed.

Nope. Because SO and I are one of those couples. We've been together going on 9 years now. We're not married but we are very committed to each other, we've discussed marriage and one day we'll get around to it. Most people assume he is my husband and I don't correct them. Nor does he correct people when they assume I'm his wife. I do call his family my in laws and he calls mine his in laws as well. We are not some high school fling so excuse me if I don't call him my "boyfriend."

So YOU are the tuna sandwich, claiming to be a panini?? How dare you!

Nine years? Aren't you "common law"? I have to agree with you about the "boyfriend/girlfriend" label. It's kinda lame after a while. Well, after 9 years it is.

No way. My mom and her boyfriend have been together for 10 years, they own property together, they have their business together, they raise his youngest daughter together...if I told her she can't refer to him as "hubby" she would probably tell me to go smurf myself lol.

Yeah, I agree here too.

I don't think I personally would jump onboard the husband/wife ship-but I'd definitely opt for "partner" or something rather than "boyfriend"-which always sounds lame anytime after like, 25.

But, like I said, whatever anyone else wants to do is, ya know, their business.

I don't care what other people call eachother. But when they use "hubby" or "wifey" when they are dating I sometimes think it's funny. lol Not something I would do.. but I don't care what others do.

I guess in some states we would be common law, in Kentucky there is no common law though. I mean, for all intents and purposes we might as well be married.

I think it's immature when they do it and they've only been boyfriend/girlfriend for a little while. But if they've been together for years and years, they might as well be married in my mind anyway because I'll think of them as hub and wife.

Nope. It doesn't bother me at all. Why would it? It doesn't affect me at all. My sister refers to her SO as her "hubby", and he refers to her as his "wife". They've been together for 8 years, so they might as well be married. Lol

Yep, I refer to my best friend as my sister. She's not related biologically, but to me, that doesn't matter. It's all about how you feel in your heart.

Exactly!

I refer to a few of my best friends as sisters/brothers, and my kids refer to them as their aunts/uncles.
