Don't do that. You risk getting an infection. The only person who should be checking you is your doctor. Also it being dilated does not mean that your baby will arrive any sooner or later. I was dilated to 2 1/2 for 3 weeks and I went to 41 weeks.

You still have a month... I've been a three for over a month and 90% effaced and I'm still pregnant. I'm getting my membranes stripped tomorrow I hope it helps. I'd never check myself for dilation though.

I did last time when I was having preterm contractions, my mw always asked what I was when I last checked.  

It took well over a year to TTC both my babies and I never got so desperate that I started checking myself so I dang sure couldn't do it now.

Also, unless you check pretty much every week you don't really know what to feel for because everyone's cervix is different.

Yikes! Be careful, or better yet don't do that. Checking yourself isn't necessary.

I did I just always made sure I sanitised my hands first! I used to use evening primrose oil every night and would check then... I was right too by my third coz I guessed I was 3 cm and when I had my check the next day he said I was a stretchy 3!

The only reason I wouldn't check is that I wouldn't know how to tell exactly how much I'm dilated. I might otherwise, I'm curious tbh. My midwife hasn't checked me in over three weeks.
