re: Should video Games w/ extreme violence be Contolled?

I don't think there should be laws against it, but I think parents need to pay more attention to what their kids are playing. My cousin asked me to buy him Grand Theft Auto when he was 10 - I said hell no. There are some things kids just don't need to be exposed to whether it's going to turn them violent or not. I'm far from over protective, but I DO believe the age guidelines are there for a reason and if my child wanted to play one over their age group, I would need to play it first to see what it's all about and WHY it got that rating.

The video game made me do it! Really!? Perhaps it is time for people to own their own lives and decisions. Oh, fast food made me fat, cigarettes made me have cancer, video games made me violent. Do whatever you will with your life; it's the American way, but own what you do!

If a person is too disturbed to play the game, then let them suffer not someone else. As for fast food and cigarettes.. My point is that the PERSON chooses to do it NOT the other way around. Noone forces anyone to eat fast food or smoke. What happened to self accountability?








To add to that: there was violence long before violent video games. Since the dawn of time there has been violence. There have also been mentally disturbed people. It appears, at least for the most part the biggest difference is the accountability factor has fallen off the charts. Many people blame anything and everything else for their own mistakes. Noone made that kid play video games, nor does it seem like anyone did anything for him. If there are red flags showing, get the kid help... Don't blame something else for the failures of his family and himself

I see far too many parents NOT taking responsibility, it's smurfing sad. It's your job as a parent to guide your child and decide what is appropriate - not just let it be a free for all. I'm not saying playing a video game is going to make them violent, but that doesn't mean your 6 year old needs to see people being shot up, whether it's "real" or not.

oh no and that's what I mean..my hubby dropped off one of my daughers class mates who is 5 and he started playing this grand theft auto type of game where the lead male person told this women to suck his dick...daddy here plays some violent games at home but its mostley diablo and halo things like that...

to me theres a big diff in lets say a game like 007 golden eye like they had for the n64 and grand theft auto..even thought both games have guns in them...

I seriously hate Grand Theft Auto, it's gross. We're gamer's too - and I agree, the type of violence, the way it's presented and the premise of the game make a big difference. We play WoW and Borderlands and stuff on our computer (we don't really do console gaming) but our kids don't play them and it's gonna SUCK to have parents who game, lol - we're gonna know exactly what it's about and why it's given it's rating - no sneaking crap past us!

same here but with me i love grand theft auto but i would never play it around kids...just like i wont watch most rated r movies around kids
