Canada/America

posted 17th Dec
Ok so I am going to be a post whore today. lol

Anyways I have been having a ton of convos with random people and friends and familiy about gun control in America vs Canada.

What are your thoughts? I mean yes we do not have the population as America does, but we have stricter gun laws and we dont have all these shootings. Some I have talked too says its due to the controle, some say its due to population etc...

We still have stuff here but it is not as horrific as it seems to be in the states. Only 1 school shooting here. Etc....

What do you think the difference is between Canada and America. How do you feel about are gun laws vs your gun laws?

I think that Canada and America are two different places, with different cultures and different mindsets. It's hard to compare them. There are a lot of things about America that I don't understand.

no matter what, people will have guns despite what the "laws" say. people will still get guns, they will still kill people. no one is gonna hand over thier gun to the government. People will use bombs and blow schools up and will still find a way. Guns dont kill people. people kill people. plain and simple. its not hard to comprehend.

i saw this today..

Some guy did a documentary about it, called bowling for collumbine. Its amazing the difference between the different countrys. In Aus it was a big deal a few days ago that someone was running around with a gun(it wasn't even fired). Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

i was thinkin about that too.

cause here its really hard to get the license to own the gun, then its hard to buy one - ok the black market is growing in the past few years, but lets say in the past 5 years maybe 10 people died of shooting- IF that...

See I get it it, but here you need to go through a lot to get a gun/own a gun etc...Courses and so forth, mental health checks and all that.

I know even if it were stricter laws people can still get guns, everyone knows someone etc.....

But why does it happen so much more in a country that is all about guns etc....then in places were guns are controlled?

Its easy to use the old adage of "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" But the question is why? Why is gun violence so disporpotionately high in the states compared to other countries?

Is it the availablity? The current economic climate? The media coverage of previous homicides? Reduced availabilty of free mental health services?

Actually, in the state I am from, you do have to go through a lot to legally own a gun. Gun laws vary by state.

Canada has a lot less of a "gun culture" than American as well. They're not one of our big pastimes by any means, I feel that here in Canada guns are used mainly for hunting/protection as opposed to toys of sorts.

probably because our constitution was written long long ago and it clearly states we have the right to bear arms. We had to have guns to hunt and eat and protect our families.
I deff think mental health checks are great for this kind of thing, but its not hard for a phsyco to manipulate and lie and get a gun. i like knowing I can easily get a gun. i dont have one yet, but im getting one very soon and taking classes to have my conceal and carry. which i will use too.

I will never understand the mindset that having stricter laws will stop these events. I saw someone say this in another thread and thought it made sense. We made rape illegal, does that mean rape no longer happens? Or have even declined? Gun laws are not the issue here, it's the sad fact that people with mental issues slip through the cracks and don't get help.

I dont personally think that everything relies on stricter gun laws at all. Everyone knows someone and it takes someone to have issues or just no reguard for others etc....cause the list goes on.

But I am wondering if it has any barriers on te difference between the two..? kwim?
I know in personal preferance I would never live in a place that had the rights to bear arms etc.....We have guns cause we are hunters, but solely for that purpose.

But I was in another thread and was saying, that even know these issues ae not issues here, we still have stronger security in our schools then the states, and it seems odd to me.

The differances in culture are minute. We are both predominantly Euro- Christian societies, that border each other and view essentilly the same media sources.

True, but in countires were rape laws are not heavily enforced the rate of sexual assault is WAY WAY WAY higher
