I was born in 91..I don't know what incident your talking about but from the sounds of it that would be on the parents for not teaching him about the dangers of guns.

7 buried on property in locked military box 20 miles from the house at our bug out spot. 1 on my person and when I'm asleep, it's in the fingerprint coded lock box in my night stand. One in the same type of box in the living room and six in the indoor tornado shelter in a liberty safe.

Yep, but it is literally impossible for anyone other than me or DH to access the biometric lockboxes and the rifles in the liberty safe and buried are unloaded.

I don't think Canada and America can be compared. In fact, I don't think America can be compared to much of the developed world. Our population is so massive and diverse, whereas places like Canada are not as large and diverse as the U.S. Of course, a place like ours with over 300,000,000 people are going to have more incidences, as you've mentioned OP.

But I do think America is way too gun obsessed, and it is crazy easy to get a gun here in the U.S. I wouldn't mind making it harder or having some more gun regulation. I have no problems with guns themselves, but I feel like America as a whole abuses them.

To play devil's advocate, if I knew that my child had a mental illness, I would not have any guns in the household. Not saying that she knew, but if she did, she should have removed them so that her child wouldn't have such easy access to murderous weapons.

She had to have known, the father knew.

He did?

Sad situation. I hate to sound heartless, but I can say as a mentally ill person that I should not be allowed any access to guns and if she knew how ill he was, she is partially to blame for this incident.

Realistically, illegal guns are responsible for the day to day gun violence on the streets in the US.

These planned tragedies, Columbine, Sandy Hook, are typically not performed by someone in the heat of the moment.
They tend to be well planned out and legal guns taken by illegal means. With the amount of planning involved its pretty obvious that those that perpetrate these horrors will find any means they can to carry out their plans.

There is a huge difference between the crimes committed with legal guns and illegal guns.

That's a good point. I'm interested to know how much planning went into this particular shooting. My problem with guns is the fact that they are made with the purpose of killing people (besides hunting guns), so it makes me extremely uncomfortable that someone can go into a Walmart and buy weapon that is designed to kill people. I don't know what the solution is for the illegal guns on the streets...

I agree with this in general.
