So my Hubby's family doesn't support my VBAC

posted 16th Dec
So what do I do on this situation ladies?

Today we went to my in laws to visit and my husbands aunt also happened to be there. Well myself being overly excited about finally finding a doctor that will let me VBAC after my inverted T c section with my last LO started telling them about how excited I was and everything. I told them about how I really wanted a VBAC and about how I already found a doula and that I wanted to have an all natural child birth if possible. And all they had to say back was that it is WAY to risky to have a vaginal birth after a c section and that I am just selfish to be willing to leave my husband and kids just for my own satisfaction (basically say I will for sure die). They questioned why I would pay a woman I don't even know to be with me during labor and that my hubby can do everything that she would do without me blowing his money. (He provides for us) And the really big kick in the face was when my bitch mother in law straight out says "There is no way in hell you will be able to make it through labor all natural" because according to her she could barely do it and well apparently im not as tough/strong as her? Idk I feel so disappointed that she doesn't support me and my decisions because no matter what I am going to do what I feel is best for me and baby and that is a VBAC. I tried to explain to her the facts about everything and she just kept ranting and raving about basically what a horrible wife and mother i am. I am pissed, hurt, sad, and just confused now. My hubby and I even got into a huge fight about it because as soon as we walked out her door I told him that if she doesn't support my decision then she doesn't have to be in the room. And then he of course took up for her. AHHHHH!!!!!

I would tell them they are smurfing ignorant & to shut the hell up.

Yes, I would really say that. I told my own family when they tried to pull that smurf with me. It's your labour experience, screw everyone else. VBACs ARE safer statistically than c-sections.

1) VBAC is safer
2) I wouldn't have a doula either, jmo. It.seems like a waste.of money.
3) Don't let her be in.the room if you dont want to.

Talk to your doula and even your ob/gyn. Ask your doula what her plan is if everything doesn't go as planned? How long will she wait before calling an ambulance? How far are you from a hospital? Ho wmany VBACs has she preformed. Will she take a ultrasound before you give birth to make sure your baby isn't too large to fit through your birth canal? You need to have a back up plan for everything.

I applaud you for trying to go all natural and wanting to experience vaginal delivery. It's not something to be scared of. Unfortunetaly having a prior C-Section does cause scarring and can make delivery difficult. I wish you the best in whatever you do. If you feel your plan is solid.. go for it.

Doulas aren't a waste of money! Especially in a hospital birth. They are very beneficial.

Eh if you have a lot of support I think it would be. Not in OP's case but in mine it would be

Gah!!!!! Why are mother-in-laws so evil!?!?! I think it's great that you want to have a VBAC and expecially awesome that you're going all natural! For thousands of years, women did it without the aid of drugs....maybe she's just a pansy lol!
and shame on your husband for taking her side, unfortunately i've been in your shoes as far as that goes. congrats strong momma!

this.
tell that bitch to eat a dick, and do your VBAC and make her feel like smurf for saying all those horrible things to you!

to get inspiration and motivation, I'd read lots of VBAC stories. Think positive!

GOOD LUCK MAMA! Don't let anyone make you second guess what you have researched and decided.

ah. yea I won't be having one, but that's because I will be having my partner, a midwife in training & a senior midwife all attending my birth LOL.

but yea I definitely would if I was OP.

Yuup, I agree with what most people have said. If your doctor and you have researched it and found it to be safe for you to do, it's none of their goddamned business because it is YOUR pregnancy, YOUR body and YOUR baby. Tell them to suck an egg or if you want to be more polite try 'I appreciate your concern regarding our welfare but the doctor has approved this and we are confident it'll be completely safe"
