domestic abuse questions (Canada)

I have an online friend who lives in Canada. She tried to leave her abusive husband the other day, she packed up the kids, left, and called the police, the police told her to go home and contact a lawyer! So my questions are what does she need to do, are there battered women's shelters there, or somewhere that can help her?

What province is she in? There are usually women's resource centers or shelters. I've never known of a town that doesn't have one unless its very, very small (like a couple hundred people). The police should have made a contact list available to her upon responding to the domestic abuse call. It's usually the kind of thing that would be in the phone book or even something she could google.

All the police did was tell her to go home and contact a lawyer! She is so scared just when she finally got up the courage to leave she was told to go home!

Well tell her to contact the people that I and the other poster put up. Campbell river is small and the cop could know the husband.

I will   tell her to stay strong and she deserves way better(for her and her children).
