I just posted a thread about DD's white stool a bit ago. I Googled (I know I shouldn't have, but otherwise I wouldn't have known how serious white stool can be) the possibilities and I'm pretty freaked out. So I have three questions. Has your LO ever had white stool? What was wrong with them? And should I take her to the ER?

She's been sick since Tuesday constantly throwing up, screaming her head off for HOURS every night, and now she's had three diapers with white stool. I just know it's something more than a 24 hour virus, which the ped told me. All he gave her was anti-nausea medicine.

White stool is indicative of a liver problem. Yes, she needs to be taken to the ER.

how old is she?

when my cousin was younger, she drank SO MUCH effing milk that she ALWAYS had white poop hahahaa

She's 17 1/2 months old. But she hasn't had milk in a few days.

she drinks cow milk? like...how much? like i said...my cousin drank TONS of it. literally. we'd go through like...2 gallons a day because of her.

it might be something, it might be nothing. the only way to ease your mind would be to take her to the doctor just to be on the safe side  

I would take her. It could be nothing at all, but because she has been sick she could be missing something

I would take her to an urgent care place or a Walgreens care clinic before the ER. My DD has had white stools twice, but it's always right after a virus. That's probably what it is, since she's been sick, but I would have her checked out just in case. Not an emergency, IMO.

Anytime any one has white stool they need to be seen by a Dr. It means the body is not working right. You should get to a Dr

I am sorry but milk can not make your poop white.

White stool can be a sign of very serious digestive issues. It is caused by a lack of bile in the digestive system. A number of things can cause this "lack of bile" some things are less serious than others. To be safe any one who has white or light colored stool should see a Dr.



OP I hope they say it is just something minor and I hope she feels well fast. I will be thinking of you and your LO.

The white stool by itself wouldn't be enough for me to take one of my kids to the ER. It would make me schedule an appointment the dr asap. With the non-stop vomiting and crying, that would make me think that something bigger was going on. In that situation, i would take them to the ER. My kids have had an assortment of stomach bugs over the years. None of them have lasted 6+ days and none of them have made them have white poop. If nothing else, maybe they could rehydrate her and give her little body a break. Keep us posted! Hope she feels better.

her pediatrician told my aunt she was drinking too much milk. she had her stop drinking it for a few days and her stools returned to the color they should be, then she was given the ok to give her milk but in moderation.

How many years ago was this? You cannot have white poop from too much milk. Milk is fully digested and the white color of it is irrelevant. You must have misheard your sister, or your sister misheard the doctor, or the doctor was mistaken. My guess is that her poop was not white, but pale yellow, which is common from drinking too much milk. White stool is indicative of a liver blockage and can be very, very serious.

Oh my god mama!!! Please keep us posted on what happens when you go to the ER.   I hope she feels better soon.
