Quoting *J*:" Why not have xmas. But nit have it till his attitude improves. Losing it 100% is harsh but a "on hold ... [snip!] ... but a "on hold till you behave" might spark better behavior. May be feb before he gets it but its something to work towards."

I was thinking that I would do Christmas like usual, but as soon as he goes back for break, take away all the awesome stuff he got until he starts bring home good marks for his behavior.

Now, thinking about doing that just makes me angry as I get ready to pull two double shifts this weekend for present money. Heh.

My nephew was have horrible behavior issues in school. He is only a kindergartner. He spit in his teachers face, told her he hopes she dies, hit her, and head butted her. He got kicked out of his first classroom but his new teacher refuses to give up on him. My sister finally caved and put him on meds and he is whole different student. He made all A's his first grading period and behaving so much better.

Quoting Brink:" He sounds like he has ODD honestly. I work across from an EBD class and most of the kids have it. Very similar sounding."

What is ODD? We have a referral for a youth behavioral thing, but haven't been able to make it since I've been working often and my husband's schedule is awful.

I just need to do it. I can't keep doing this. I literally hate waking up every morning because I have to deal with his nonsense.

Thinking about medicating my kid makes me feel terrible, but I don't know what else to do at this point.

I don't think anything will improve until underlying issues are addressed, and it may well be a mix of emotional issues and a disorder such as ADHD/ODD.
I know the naughtiest boy in my class in grade school had a mom who had different boyfriends every week, his dad lived in australia so he hardly saw him, And he had ADHD.
I'm not saying your family are smurffy like his, just illustrating that there are so many issues that can cause a kid to act out.

Probably wouldn't work with me, but probably would if his dad sat in the classroom.

It really does sound like ODD.

I would google it, see if it matches up, and talk to his pediatrician. Not that you should just stop disciplining him, but I wouldn't take Christmas away until you get some professional opinion and help. Don't torture yourself, taking away Christmas is punishing the whole family.

Oppositional defiant disorder.

Everything you're saying I hear the other parents say. They do behavior therapy with good results.

Oppositional Defiance Disorder.

I'd also look at his diet, try and cut out any junk, dyes, anything processed or high in sugars and replace it with lots of vegetables and oily fish and lean meat.

LOL, that's definitely not us. Me and his dad have been married almost 5 years and there's never been any huge life changes for him. His egg donor was in his life until he was about 9 months, but he doesn't remember anything about her. He thinks I was pregnant with him like I was with his sister.

Need to do it. Think how he feels if he cant control it. My daughter has adhd with some special needs and it can cause aggressiveness not just hyperness. Try not to blame him too much till you know the cause. You would feel horrible if you took xmas forever or did coal or some smurf to find out he has a chemical imbalance.

And I'd like to add that I think singling him out at Christmas and humiliating him with a piece of coal in front of family like another poster suggested will only be the start of your relationship going way way way downhill.

As a child I took it and I was a honor roll student, graduated top of my class in both HS and College. I have never rebelled against my parents, never did drugs, drank or partied. I know people have horror stories all the time but it did turn out good for me.
