How long do you normally take an anti depressant for postpartum depression? anyone know? My doctor said something about a year..? I don't think that's happening for me. I'm prescribed Celexa..

Sometimes it's 3 months, sometimes it's forever. You have to listen to your body.If you still need it for a year, take it for a year. A pill a day is better than hating life. It's not your fault your body is creating the hormones that it should, no shame in fixing that.

Most antidepressants take weeks to work! Like 6-8 weeks is the standard... Listen to your doctor and do some research!

Celexa didn't work for me. Then I went on Effexor. That turned me into an over eating drug seaking maniac. I have been on welbutrin for about 6 months now and I am doing fine. I expect to be off them enitrely in the next few months. We are all different. Some a year, others longer. It helps if you are getting counseling

They usually give you about a year or so. I actually didn't even know I had PPD until I stopped nursing.

If you feel fine, it's working. Generally they'll try to wean you off in small amounts to get you off of it to see if you still need it.

I quit taking mine when life got back to "normal". I was use to the babys schedule, and when my hubby and I got comfortable with our new adjusted life of taking care of a baby and it was not so stressful. I think it's just something that you just know when you don't need them anymore. The anti depressant i was on did not make life all butterflies and rainbows, it just made things easier to deal with, yet I still had some stress and worried about some stuff. *not sure if any of that makes sense. If you feel like you don't need it anymore, ask your doctor about how to get off it so you don't have any side effects with quitting cold turkey. If you find that you still need it after you have stopped taking them, then just start back on it again. The world won't end if you quit before you are ready to. It will be ok
