Diaper rash or yeast infection?
posted 15th Dec
My son is 5 days old and his little butt looks so bad. It's red right on the inside of his tiny cheeks. We used A&D for 2 days, with no improvement. It doesn't seem to hurt him.
We went to the store and picked up some zinc paste which is a lot thicker and stays on, so I'm hoping it helps.
What does a yeast infection look like compared to a diaper rash?

With my kids..when its just red/sunburned looking its just a regular rash..if its splotchy and has red dots..yeast.

When my son would have a yeast infection I would wipe it down like a normal diaper rash and the skin would peel off. I felt so freakin bad. It didnt seem to hurt him though like a normal diaper rash would. It kinda looked like little blistery spots.

Also..if you're using wipes..stop until it clears up. most wipes contain alcohol and can irritate the rash more. just rinse his bottom off with Luke warm water or a wash cloth.

This happened to our son after we brought him home. Nothing worked for his diaper rash but triple paste they have it at Walmart and it works wonders!

LO had to get Nystatin cream for hers. It worked great. It's a prescription cream, though. You'll have to call your pedi and have them call you a RX in for it.

if you think its yeast you can get the miconazole that walmart sells or wherever. when my son got bad rashes i usually mixed a&d (yellow kind) with triple antibiotic ointment put it on and covered it with baby powder & it would clear it right up.
