Dollar store plates and decorating.

I know I have seen some people try this and I've seen it all over pinterest.com but I have read several places it doesn't work. I'm referring to the dollar store plates, writing on them with sharpie and then baking in the oven. I heard it wears off after one or two washes. So if anyone has actually had success with this let me know. And I do mean they've been washed a few times and are still good.

Darn, I was going to make a cookie plate for Santa. I actually didn't get it at Dollar Store but at another cheap place.

I tried it the other night with different colors of sharpie. Only black color didnt get all weird. But I tried it on a mug with a black marker and it worked well. I read that if you bake it for 35 mins at 450 degrees, it works much better. I went and bought the porcelaine pens tonight and used nice plates. I have to let it dry 24 hrs and then bake.

Basically, for me, the sharpie worked fine, but I think you need a better quality plate, higher heat, and makes sure the oven is cold when you put the plate in it an then let it heat. Let it cool completely before removing. Seems like the black marker works best.
