re: Wanting to have a baby at 18?

posted 15th Dec
Are you going to be able to support it? Are you willing to give up school for the foreseeable future? Are willing to throw away the chance to have a life?

Or put your child in that situation.

Additionally, what I think most teens do not think about:
You want a baby but do you want a CHILD that will grow up and be with you for 18 years at home and beyond that your child forever.

What about when you want to go on a trip, you need an extra plane ticket, extra food money, extra attraction tickets. You are not adding a 'baby' to your life, you are adding another growing human being that will not be a baby forever. School expenses, medical expenses, clothing expenses ect.

Although I don't think 18 is too young to have a baby, I do think that there are other priorities in your life you should take care of first. Like establishing a career for yourself and building up a nice savings account, purchasing a car and a house, and then think about trying to concieve.

Yea, because we're only referring to parties...

I feel like I missed out on a lot. There's no way I can just move out now. I used to have my own apartment in Philly. I was happy being able to have my own place but we rarely ate any food that was healthy. I would never do that with a child. I would have loved to moved away to college again. I want to go take a vacation to the ocean and I can't. It's not just going out to a bar or going to a party because I can still do that. That's the least of it. It's missing out on making friends at college, being able to live for myself and learn more about me.

Exactly. I was actively trying o NOT have a baby at that age and it happened anyway - I would never have done it on purpose.

I added onto it in an additional post. I know it isn't only parties.

oh sweetie, i know a alot of young girls see all the fun in having a baby and oh how cute then want one. but you dont see behind the scenes. you dont see the hard parts and the struggles and the sleepless nights. I love my daughter more then anything but i should of went to college and gotten married first. Its take money to raise a child, i work my ass off to get by...any extra money i have goes to her...i dont get to go shopping for me. Go to college and establish a career first. get married. if yall break up and you have a baby that boy is in your life forever. live your life a little...travel, turn 21 and party...get it out of your system because it changes after baby. babys are great but its harder then you think. if you want the best for you r baby then get your life completely together before bringing a baby into it.

Good luck to you! I've just changed my studying plans because I can't afford to keep studying, and my SO wants to go to a cookery school hundreds of miles away which costs like $40000, so I need to move nearer there and support us through it on a low paying job, an assistant to the person I would have gone to university to be.
