re: The Overwhelming Maleness of Mass Homicide

P.S. That is what I was saying. More males get diagnosed with antisocial. Histrionic personality disorder is quite similar but usually gets attributed to females....

I can't think about the fact that humankind has always been a violent species (in general), with or without video games. Just look at history.

Yes. You can find stuff on it.
Anecdotally, years ago I was an avid Everquest player. I started thinking about it the characters and players fairly frequently in real life. It fairly common.
I'm a well-adjusted, healthy mature, accomplished, professional woman from a solid,healthy family.
There were lots of kids and young adults who were impressionable on that site. The game was fairly tame as there was nothing graphic and no blood.
I'd be considered low-risk yet some other people whom aren't so healthy and well-adjusted would be high risk, especially if they played the more violent and graphic games.

Quoting MX23:" why is everyone so quick to blame video games when a shooting happens. i play them but dont go around shooting people. video games dont cause this."

I certainly don't think it's only video games. I think there are many, many things that have contributed to society becoming the way it is regarding violent outbursts like the on one Friday.

But how can you deny that letting kids as young as 6 and 7 play an xBox game all day where they are shooting human beings or zombies does something to their developing brains? They get desensitized to killing (same with watching violent movies or violence on the news). To me, it's sort of like how so many serial rapists and/or pedophiles started off just watching porn. They watch others doing it and think it's normal. Of course not every person who watches porn turns into a rapist, but everyone's brains are wired differently.

You can't imagine how someone might think like that...can you imagine what someone must be thinking when they wake up and think it's a good idea to go shoot their mom in the face and then slaughter a bunch of children?

Not everyone thinks rationally.

I haven't read any of the responses, so forgive me if this has been brought up:

How many of the people that committed mass homocide were white men?

I've seen an article (I'll see if I can find it again and share it) that posed the question of race, rather than sex. White guilt and all that.

i guess its just no big deal to me. i cant see how a game like that is bad for a 6 or 7 year old cuz its just a game. i dont really know. i havent been around kids that age so i dont know how they act. i know they have ratings on them cuz i tried to buy a game when i was 16 and the bitchy cashier wouldnt sell it to me cuz it was 17 and up.

Lol. I just realized that you are 17! I understand your view more now.

It IS a big deal that 6 or 7 year old brains "get programmed" hours per day with violent videos. For a great, healthy kid whose parents are otherwise very responsible and good, it may be less of an issue.
Unfortunately, lots of kids don't have the best supervision and parenting.
