re: asking for c-section

Like i said, i knew a few that have asked and the docs said no cause there's no reason to. But you can always ask, you never know. x

i dont think im selfish at all, my mother nearly dies when she gave birth becuase of the amount of blood she lost, thats why i was asking, mailnly the fact even if there was a tiny risk i could die in labour, i want to be around for my baby, you need to ask facts before you start judging...

recovery at home wasnt so bad seeing as i didnt have help from family since i moved to a diff state... but just the experience in general i hated. for me personally i felt like i didnt really remember my son being born because after the spinal i got so sick and it was all just a blur... and then just feeling so helpless staying in bed that first day sucked. i couldnt get out of bed to get him myself, i had to rely on SO to do most of it besides the feedings

you can lose blood in a csection too. i almost needed a blood transfusion because when they were sewing me back up they ha a hard time stopping the bleeding

I lost over 2pints of blood during me. there's chances of major blood loss either way.

You are so much more likely to die in section than youar in natural labor.

Mine was just ao different because i was out completely under and LO was in the NICU with a breathing tube. I went to see him 4 (or 6?) hrs later and it did suck ass getting i that wheelchair and i couldn't stand up for more than a minute at a time to look at him. But, i seriously had a huge rediculous fear of labor. Just the thought of being in that much pain for so long really freaked me out. Of course my next will hopefully not be emergency and it will be a totally different experience.

Both of my c/s weren't that terrible to recover from (emergency c/s after 3+ hours of pushing, DS was in fetal distress and came out blue and not breathing and then a "scheduled" repeat c/s which was even easier to recover from since I'd been thru one before)

I'm glad to hear that. I'm not sure what to excpet of a repeat c-sec

I hope I never have to have a c section again. It sucked. DD was footling breech, so I had no other option. The numbing shot hurt, the spinal block sucked ass because the chick couldn't get it in so I was poked 3 times. The feeling of someone squishing around on your uterus and pulling a person from it, then sewing you up is really disturbing. The spinal made me cold and shaky and horribly itchy so I couldn't really hold DD for about half an hour, she just had to lay on me. It took me about an hour to finally be able to wiggle my toes if I tried REALLY hard. Talking and laughing seemed to take so much more energy. I wasn't allowed out of bed for 12 hours, when I stood up it felt like my insides were going to become outsides, I had a catheter for 19 hours, I couldn't get up to change DD's diapers or walk with her or anything, when I was finally cleared of the cath even standing to change DD's diapers made me shake and when I finally got to take a shower I had to sit down half way through. I was in the hospital for 2 days, when I got home I still had a lot of trouble getting around, showing, etc. for about a week (SO was home and he helped with everything but it still sucked). At which point it was time to get my staples taken out, then a week of steri-strips (which hurt like hell to pull off). My incision hurt for about a month and now, 8 months later, it's numb in the middle and if my pants are too tight it gets really tender.

My sister and best friend had an epi and they were up moving 2 hours later, both were pain free after 2 weeks. Not to mention they didn't have the risks that come with major surgery.

I don't see why you'd choose to have surgery. I see some women on here saying their section wasn't that bad so I guess just like labor, they're all different. I just know mine was horrible.

no I don't. There is nothing to ask. You have a greater risk of bleeding to death with a c section. Yes, complications can happen to anyone... But there is a much greater risk of that with a c section. How about YOU learn some facts.

ive learnt my facts, but youreally SHOULDNT judge people before you know there reasons behind asking the question.I posted this for advice, not for people to call me selfish!

I don't feel my decision was selfish either. I trusted my doctor and the delivery team. I didn't want to be in labor, deliver 1 baby and have the 2nd "flip" and then get a c-section anyway. I didn't want a vaginal delivery at all. And any further children will be delivered by elective c-section. (Even if I were to only be pregnant with one) I work for a weight loss surgeon who preforms 1,000's of major abdominal surgeries a year. I understand there are risks but the chances of something happening are so small.
I'm curious to see if any of the people who are against elective c-sections are pro-choice. If so, it's pretty hypocritical. Would you tell a woman she was selfish for wanting an abortion, regardless of her reason for it? No. It's her body, her choice. This is as well.

My cousin asked and because of her fears got an elective c-section for her first. she has since regretted the decision after watch my birth and recovery compared to hers. To each their own though and all you can do is ask.

I have had two c-sections and I have to admit, they were really easy and painless. Not too mention the fact that it didn't leave my vagina stretched out, but that isn't a good reason to have a c-section. My first one was medically indicated. I tried for a natural birth no meds with the first. I went 42 weeks with no dilation, so after almost 72 hours of painful labor induction attempts and still no dilation, the c-section was a relief. The second time, I was given the option to wait further or have repeat c-section. I waited 41 weeks and I had another c-section. Another easy recovery. The first time we did dissolvable sutures, so there were no staples to remove. The second time, I had staples and the staple removal felt like someone repeatedly tapping a pencil point against my skin. More of a nuisance than a pain. I'm not diminishing that it is major abdominal surgery, but the main risk is repeated c-sections. If you plan more than four children, it's usually not recommended to have repeated c-sections. You get plenty of pain meds, but I didn't take too many. I was up walking around the same day of surgery. I had to stay 24 hours the second time and 48 hours the first time.
