I don't know. There are very few people here (in Canada) that have a gun just because they can. The majority of non criminal types with guns are for hunting or gun range hobbies. We aren't a big "have it to protect yourself" country.

The only people I know that have guns are hunters. That's the way it should be, imo. The more guns that are out on the streets, the more likely there are going to be tragedies (such as the one that happened today  ) I think selling your gun to the government is a great idea! However, if the government were to all of a sudden make it illegal to own a gun, it wouldn't end pretty.

People were given the opportunity to sell their guns to the government for a period of time, after that time was up they were taken by the government with no reinstitution offered, under strict gun control laws. Those in law/armed enforcement, farmers with permits for certain guns and other specified occupations are allowed to carry and own firearms. These firearms are restricted to certain types as well.

It was a way of offering compensation for a change in gun control laws.

Same in Australia, guns are not completely banned but they are heavily restricted.

There are shooting ranges and hunting here it just has guidelines and needed restrictions.

Yeah. Hell, I'd give them our guns, tell 'em to save their money for something else.

We do have guns, but we're not gun nuts. The one who really uses ours is 13DD, she likes to hunt. But she's a skilled archer and she'd get over it quickly.

Hell no. I would "lose them" in a rafting accident. I believe that according to the 2A it is an obligation of the American citizenry to have weapons to protect themselves from a tyrannical government. Every able bodied citizen with no mental problems between the ages of 18 and 65 should own a gun and be trained in its use.

I agree (DH and I are saving up for our guns now.) If everyone gave up.their guns then.only criminals and the government would be able to have any kind of defense and I don't trust either.

I'm not a gun nut but I would never give up the right or abide a government doing that.
There are some silly laws already about guns.
We have geese at a neighbors pond and they need to be shot. The law says we can't shoot them. They are disgusting.

I disagree. A man in China killed 22 students at a school with a knife another killed 3 with an ax. Guns are not the issue. Crazy people will find a way. Maybe those instances would be fewer if the crazy person realized they aren't the only one with a weapon.
