Banning tattoo shops? -POLL-

posted 14th Dec
So, in my town, there is an overload of tattoo shops,
tattoo shops are literally across the street from other tattoo shops.
A town over, where my parents live, there is two downtown, just a handful total.

Apparently, tuesday, city cancel passed a new regulation that tattoo shops are no longer allowed on the ground floor of their downtown and surrounding areas, as a way to preserve the towns 'image' for tourists & etc.

"It certainly can develop that image if you kept the door open and allowed whoever wants to show up," Clauson said. "I think there's a place for tattoo parlors. I don't know that our downtown core is the highest and best use."

And apparently an existing shop owner agrees with the idea.

Has this happened in your town before?
Thoughts?
I've really never heard of something like this.

I think that is idiotic. My mother is handicapped and has a few tattoos and plans on getting more and if they did this everywhere she wouldn't be able to get one. I think it is a stupid idea.

Yup. Back in my home town tattoo shops are not allowed in the corperated (sp?) part of town. I think it's BS but oh well

I think it's dumb. Why would a tattoo shop ruin their image? It's almost 2013, not 1950.

It's what we call a free market. There are churches like that here and no one sees a ban on those.

I don't think it should be city councils decision to shut them down, if they were to be shut down at all. Personally I don't think they should be.

Oh the existing two shops aren't being shut down, it's just a no-no to any new ones i guess. (otherwise i'm sure the shop owner wouldn't have had as nice of words to say in the article, ha)

Why wouldn't she be able to get one? They're just taking about moving them from the downtown area to other areas of the city.

Though i DO think its a stupid idea.

no, she's referencing the fact that if they were downtown, they couldn't be ground level.

haha yeah, it would never ever ever pass in this town.

Because we cannot get my mother upstairs. If she gets out of breath she tends to have an asthma attack and we can't exactly wheel her upstairs.
