How would you know what im going for theres a difference between protecting your child and sheltering them. Every parent wabts to protect their child and thats what i want to do...

Well, there are a TON of resources for having your child to interact and have friends without going to school. My sisters boyfriend through high school was home schooled from 5th grade and you would have never known. His family participated in a homeschooling group where they would meet and have field trips together, get together for playdates...very well rounded kids, you never would have known.

Maybe you struggle because of the school system? I was almost finished with my AA in early childhood education and honestly, working on becoming a teacher is what turned me off to public schools. Even if I choose to send her to kindergarten next year I'll supplement her education at home to fill in the gaps.

My daughter only goes to preschool when I can afford to send her, and even when she's not in school she plays with kids her age every day.

This could be very true.

I have an issue with the public school systems anyway, and I KNOW part of it stems from having such a crap time of it myself when I was in school. I have all kinds of learning issues and they were ignored and chalked up to laziness instead of having me tested and giving me the help I needed. I ended up dropping out and getting my GED and breezing through college - but that's AFTER I was tested and understood what was wrong with me. But I was 15 before they decided to help me and this was after my mother fighting the school board. I was a Sophomore, I lasted until I was a Junior and just couldn't hack it anymore, I was too far behind. I left, studied on my own, learned to handle myself and went onto bigger and better things.

no its not the school. ill be honest and say its me. i started to struggle in junior high. i asked teachers for help and just didnt get what i needed. i got pissed and said smurf it and i just did enough to get by and pass. as long as i passed i didnt care. i have a big problem paying attention in class. after 20 minutes im day dreaming about stuff and not paying attention to the teacher.

im already regretting it now and trying to do my best that i can even though its late for that.

I went to an awesome school where every teacher went above and beyond the call of duty to help kids, but I know I was VERY blessed. I hear stories like yours way too often   I want to be that teacher that tries to instill a love of learning in each child, but I don't want to gamble on my daughter getting a smurffy teacher.

You're awesome for having the discipline to take care of your education yourself despite a crappy start!

Thanks! I'm actually hoping to teach one day, too. I really want to help kids who have trouble learning, I don't want to see other kids slip through the cracks, there just isn't an excuse for it.

Asking for help and not receiving it isn't your fault. That's the problem with stuffing as many kids into a classroom as possible...teachers just don't have the time to work with every student to find the learning style most compatible with them., not every kid can just listen to a lecture, take notes, and get the concept.

i did tell a few teachers that i had trouble concentrating and paying attention and one said that i had to learn to pay attention at this level cuz thats how most classes are going to be taught and how its going to be in high school. they said to get to bed early and eat a good breakfast and i had to work hard.

There is more to it than that, honestly. They should have at least taken you in to have you evaluated. Whether or not they put you on meds for ADD is up to a doctor, but there are ways of dealing with it beyond just telling you to sleep and eat breakfast. Irks me that they would say that to you and just blow you off....
