Do tragedies like today...

posted 14th Dec
make you seriously reconsider what you're going to do with your kids as far as school & etc?

I know this isn't the only school shooting that's happened,
but they're saying it would be the worst elementary school one in US history.
My son's a first grader at a small private school here,
and all day i've (as i'm sure alot of you) have been stuck in the mind-state of the pain those parents must be feeling.

While i know you can't just keep your kids glued to your hip at all times to ensure their safety,
has today (or things like today) made you think of home-schooling or actually switch to home schooling?

No. Because if that was the case, we may as well live under a rock.

Yeah it is a very scary situation! I would love to think that would never happen in the area I live in. However, we have had a few suicides..which is scary too. But yeah..Just makes you think!

Nope, becasue as tragic as it is, it is a percent of a percent chance that it would ever happen to my kid

She has a better chance of getting hit by a school bus, or catching ebola.

She'll be starting kindergarten in Sept 2013

true, but can't help but think that some of the parents of the children had that same mindset.

A part of me says yes, i wish i could keep them closer. But you can't shleter them so much so that nothing bad can happen. If that was the case then we shouldn't drive our cars or go to amusement parks, go swimming in the pool. every where you go there can be violence or tragedy. But we can't assume there will be tragedy everyday.

Yes, it really does. Unfortunately, things can happen in the safety of our own homes too.

No death and crimes happen every day. One can not avoid it simply by homeschooling, one would have to be under lock and key their entire lives. Even then many accidental deaths happen at home.

Same here, actually. My son was supposed to go this past school year but because he's an August birthday I decided to wait. Amongst other reasons, though, I seriously want to consider homeschooling............. this incident just seals my opinion. My husband is not on board so I'm trying to round up some info to convince him it's a good idea.

That'd usually be my mindset too, but we just last year had a shooting too (one student shot another) at the elementary my son would transfer to eventually. All of it makes me think twice.

No because my neighbors house was shot up with AK-47's... what if that would have been my house, what if we would have been home all day....Tragedies can happen anywhere. Home, wal mart, school...
