re: Do tragedies like today...

No. I mean, unfortunately there's gun violence everywhere & maniacs on the loose everywhere and you just never know. We can't just stay inside all the time and hope nothing happens. Today's incident is especially horrific, but I guess living here, I hear so much about gang violence and drive bys and whatever else, that---it's not maybe as shocking to me as it would be if I weren't so miserably and unfortunately desensitized to gun violence.

What the smurf is wrong with people, though? Seriously. It's time to sit down and figure out what the smurf is going on here.

Bad things happen everywhere. This is so tragic but does not make me want to homeschool.

What about the local story where I live a few weeks ago about a mom holding up her two year old to see a painted dog exhibit at our zoo, and he fell in and was mauled and killed by the animals.

Life unfortunately cannot be kept in a bubble. It happens at every age, every angle. If you live in fear, you won't really get a chance to live.

Yea, I can see that. I also heard communities set up "field trips" with other home schooled kids so they get that interaction as well.

I feel like there needs to be more strict regulations with guns but it really seems like the biggest issue is the fact that people with mental illness are not getting the help they need. I personally know a guy who is schizophrenic and he has threatened to kill people, even his newborn child, he owns weapons and just acts crazy all the time but when people have called the police they just say there is nothing that can be done "until he hurts someone". Really?

I wouldn't consider that zoo thing an issue of living in a bubble or not. ha. 7 years of going to the zoo and i've yet to stand my son on any railings.

I pretty much agree with you--so much smurfed up-ness has to go into something like this.

The problem with strict gun control is that the people that will go against the law and kill people are the same who will go around the law and get a gun illegally. Why would someone who is so morally loose that they could kill another human being worry about breaking a law about buying a gun?

Then, those same "bad guys" know that good, law abiding people are open targets, because it is pretty safe to assume that a normal, law abiding citizen will not be packing an illegal weapon.

Look at cities like Chicago- most strict gun laws, yet has the worst gun violence.

What the hell is wrong with these people. And Usually the shooter doesn't make it out of the situation to be questioned, but you probably wouldn't get any real answers. These are situations where if I wish that he would have just hurt himself and not all these kids and innocent people.
