Eye doctor, When? DD is 3.

posted 14th Dec
She had a "free" check up at 6 months through some program.

But when can I take her in to get her eyes checked?

There will be times where she will grab for something small and will be one inch on either side of it. She will bump walls with her shoulder often.

I am going to call insurance and see when they cover it. But I mean how do they check a 3 year olds sight if she doesn't know all of her letters.

i think the earlier the better because its better to get them cleared instead of finding out later on they need glasses. we took my son when he was 2 and even then i was sad to find out he needed glasses, and thought about what it had been like for him til then without them.

I remember doing a test with arrows and you had to say which way they were pointing.

oh and they dont need a child to say what they see whether it be letters or for kids they have pictures. the eye doctors have things to look into their eyes and check that way with lights n whatnot

Lol I don't know anything about this because no one in my family has glasses. I am going to call the eye doctor now.

I mean I have seen toddlers with glasses so I knew there had to be a way.

yea it wont hurt to go in and get a childs eyes checked at any age if theres a concern. cam was shy the first time at 2 and wouldnt really talk, but by the next time he was used to it and could tell them what he saw like they had a cake, a car, horse plane.. and then when he could recognize his letters thats when we switched to him seeing those instead at his checkups

as soon as you can. Im taking my 3 year old in right away too cause my daughter who is now 7 i took in almost a year ago turns out her one eye is quite bad and now she has been wearing a patch for over 6 months to try and correct it. Her eye has gotten better so she wears the patch for the rest of the school year and then we go back and then we'll see if it fixed it more. I say the earlier the better, casue if they do need glasses better to catch it early before they get worse.

I made an appointment.
I am going to feel so bad if she needed glasses all this time.

I just kept telling myself she was accident prone like me. Then last week SO and I were talking, and thought maybe she needs glasses. Her BioDad has glasses and so does a lot of his family.

This! I feel awful that my son is 4 and just now getting glasses. The eye Dr. kept saying he's glad it was caught early (by my pedi) but I still feel like it should have been caught sooner.
I guess better now than in kindergarten.

See everywhere I read it said that they should have checked at DD's 3 year check up at the Pedi's office, with the cards or whatever. They never did.
Now just the other day I asked her to pick up something (don't remember what) the size of a paper clip. And she went one inch to the right of it, then one inch to the left of it and then kind of walked her fingers over until she picked it up. I have seen her do things like this before too. It just must be luck the times she grabs things right away. Most kids want to stand close to the TV, she always wants to be away from it.

The thing is is they have been working on letters at school and stuff. And no wonder DD hasn't been catching on if they don't look normal to her.

Just take her and get them checked it cant hurt. They can check kids eyes as young as 6 months old. My twin sisters had glasses by the time they were a year old they are practically blind. Their glasses are like magnifying glasses. Like acutally....haha
