4 Days Old & Constipated?

posted 14th Dec
Colton's last bowel movement was Wednesday around 2:30PM before we left the hospital. In the discharge papers it says it is normal for babies to not have a BM for a full 24 hours, but he still hasn't went again. It is 10AM where I'm at. Could he be constipated or is this normal?

ETA: He has had a lot of gas today & last night. (Not sure if that makes a difference?)

Oh thank god, SO called & talked to an assistant at the doctors office & she said she wasn't sure but she thought breast milk was suppose to work like a laxative for him. So we got a number to an actual doctor to ask them because she had no clue. We are still waiting for a call and I was getting really worried. Thank you so much.

Yeah breastfed babies often don't poop a lot, because their bodies can absorb most or all the breastmilk nutrients, less waste.

I was always told breastfed babies poop more because it goes right through them and that's why they eat so much, it naturally easier for them to digest than formula.

That can be true as well. It is more easy to digest. Some breastfed babies do poop a lot but it's very common for them not to poop as often too. Our first pooped every diaper change, this one once a week lol.

Well, thank you so much. The pedi called back & almost exactly everything you did. I'm so glad it's normal. Mommy hood is so new to me, I worry constantly.
