Cake and Candy Melts

Can I cover a cake with candy melts?
And it work well?

I don't see why not, but just curious.

I'm trying to make DD a smash cake that's Minnie Mouse without spending more money.
I have 2 bags of black candy melts and pink food gel, so I was thinking bake a cake and cover it with the black candy melts.
Maybe put icing on the cake before the melts.

the melts can work, I use them to make cake pops. definitely try a mini version first as a test. I;ve never covered a cake with one like icing, but it should work. It'll be thicker to spread that icing, but it you make it nice and smooth it would be a great idea for smashing.

Yeah, I got them to make cakepops, but I figured I'd make cupcakes, instead.
