Oxycodone and breastfeeding!

posted 13th Dec
So, I hadn't intended on breastfeeding. My son was born Monday and has been on formula. My husband and I talked about it and we decided to give breastfeeding a try. He was 4 lbs 15 ounces when he was born and I know that breastmilk is the best for him!

But.....I've been taking 5 mg oxycodone since Wednesday for the pain of the c-section.

Can I still breastfeed or how long should I wait?

It is still safe to breast feed! I did from the start with my son and he was born via csection.

They gave me oxycodone in the hospital after my baby was born and said I could breastfeed after taking it.

They prescribed it to me too. Had it with my first son too. I noticed that when I stopped taking it he became more fussy so I haven't taken it yet! If I had the pain, I would take it but I just have a bit of sinus headaches (can't take meds for congestion   ) so I'm taking the motrin.

Nervous to take it!

It's safe while breastfeeding, completely safe. An I'm pretty sure they gave it to her because she was in a lot of pain!

In case you didn't realize.. a csection is a MAJOR abdominal surgery involving 2 incisions. It is going to HURT! It is perfectly safe to take.

Its better to take that than have pain affecting your life!

This.
I was given Percocet every few hours for 4 days post delivering via c-section, andthen took Vicodin for two weeks after at night to help me sleep.
Baby was fine.

Because I had my uterus cut open, a baby ripped out, and then 17 staples put into my abdomen. -__- It's pretty painful if you ask me.

And thanks, ladies! I just pumped and got a few ounces out. I fed him an ounce and he LOVED it. He ate better than he has in the past two days. Definitely glad I decided. Plus, my boobs feel so much better now.

Ya I realize that but oxycodon..... Just seems a little intense to me.
I did a project on oxycodone in school and I would NEVER even think of taking that drug let alone while breastfeeding.

But congrats on the new baby!
And good for you for breastfeeding. It definantly is better for baby
