a way to find out if someone was in the military?
I have this friend who says he was a Marine & no one knew he joined. He also said he was dishonorably discharged. I'm kinda doubting that he was ever really a Marine.One of the biggest reasons is because he never talks about it when he is around anyone else. Especially my brother. (He was Army)... So I'm just trying to find out if its true...

I wouldnt talk about it either if I was dishonorably discharged...

If he wants to believe he was a marine, let him. It won't hurt anybody.

well thanks anyways. But I don't want a liar around me. and to lie about something so dumb is stupid. But I want to know the truth.

If he wants to believe he was a Marine when he really wasn't, fine, but he doesn't need to go around bragging or anything. If he has medals and whatnot and shows people and he wasn't in, that's stolen valor and that makes him a smurf bag. Honestly, does it really matter to you if he was indeed a Marine?

If I was to pretend I did something jobwise, the last thing I would want to be is someone who was dishonorably discharged. -.-

kinda. I don't want someone that lies, around me or my children. But thats just me. I've dealt with liars my whole life... Been one hell of a life and Those liars lied and got away with things they shouldn't have. I don't want anyone around me like that

If you truly believe he is lying, then just stop associating yourself with him. I would want to know to, to be honest.

If he is lying, I would not be surprised if he said that to gain some sort of sympathy. Minds of people like that work in very strange ways.

I just don't get why he would lie about a dishonorable... But he's also like 6' 290+lbs and to my understanding, military don't take over weight people. & he's been that way since I was 8 sooo...

Ask him if you can see his graduation from bootcamp picture.

unless he went to basic training did some incredibly stupid smurf while in BCT and got discharged..

True. But I don't think I will ever understand it. Why gain sympathy for something like that though? It seems silly to me.

It depends on how overweight. If they can lose it before/during boot, it's okay but you have to maintain a certain weight; especially in the Corps. I don't get it either. Dh and I saw some guy in Target earlier wearing a desert blouse. Dh asked him if he was in (DH is a Marine) and the guy said no. It was like "wtf then bro?" Ask to see his Corp graduation ring or pictures from graduation. If he makes up excuses, he's probably lying.

I'm with you; I have absolutely no idea. It is wrong to say the least.

Ask to see pics from graduation or just ask curious questions about his time in the service. If he doesn't have stories or comes up with excuses for not having a pic or anything, then it's a lie.

I know someone just like that. We noticed she never told stories or anything about it. Then DH asked her to help him dismantle and unjam a bolt-action shotgon (the same type of gun Marines use) and she didn't know how. That was our clue it was all a lie. But she's also claimed her dad beat her so bad when she was younger that she needed seven reconstructive surgeries. She has absolute no scarring or anything.  

Some people do it to seem cool or superior to others or something, idk. Others are pathological liars. I wouldn't want to be around him either if he was lying.
