Preemie getting sick?

posted 13th Dec
My son is 3 days old. He was born at 36 weeks and 5 days. I've noticed he's been sneezing a lot and he had a little bit of a runny nose today. I suctioned it out twice, but it wasn't anything too crazy. I don't hear any congestion, no coughing, he's not too warm, and he's eating well. But he has been sleeping literally ALL day. Not waking up to cry because of a wet or dirty diaper, not crying to eat.

Is this normal or do you think he's getting a cold?

I don't have a pediatrician yet, but I'm supposed to follow up with the on-call doctor from the hospital next week.

Newbs are normally a bit sneezy and congested. It's their noses getting used to air instead of water.

My son did that a lot too. They told it that when they are born my c section, the don't get squeezed like they do during a vaginal birth, and they have a lot of the fluid in their lungs and sinus cavities still. He may continue to sleep a lot like that for the first few weeks. it is pretty normal. If you are concerned though, you should get him checked out.

A tiny bit. I stuck him in the sun for a little while today.
