Surrogate Mother

I'm thinking to apply to be a surrogate mother in Maine, but I don't know if I want to go through an agency or somehow do it private. I don't know anyone who wants one (that I know of) but I don't really know where to go to look for them unless I go through an agency. Has anyone does this before or does anyone know more about this and how to become one? I'm 21 with a very healthy 13 month old and the pregnancy was fine and labor was short and easy.

A lot of agencies you have to be 23. I remember that from researching. You also have to have a job and not be on any government assistance. Those are the major things I remember.

If you go through an agency, they'll match you up with someone.

It's such an amazing gift to give someone.

I didn't know you had to have a job, but I did see somewhere (When I was looking into it) that you couldn't be on Government Assistance.

I think it varies by agency, but the particular one I looked into the most required you have at least a part time job. I can't remember why, other than I remember her saying something about activity and responsibility.

An independent surrogacy can be pretty difficult. There are a lot of laws involving it and you would probably want to hire a lawyer to help with a contract and the legalities.

I am in the process of going through an agency. I suggest doing some research and looking into a few agencies and see if it fits what you're looking for. There are quite a few guidelines, more than just having an easy pregnancy and delivery. Such as age, criminal history, job, no government assistance, your family has to be supportive, or have at least one supportive family member, and SO can't have any criminal history and must consent to the surrogacy, plus many more guidelines.

I guess that makes sense... When I got DH on board and agreeing to me becoming a surrogate, every agency I applied to declined me due to what happened with my first pregnancy.. They wouldn't give me the time of day to explain... So I lost that before it started.

I had the same happen to me when I first applied. I then tried again and contacted a couple different agencies and they said they didn't see it as a threatening problem. They are still waiting for my medical records to be released but from what I told them, they think I will be ok.

From what I've been told, you have to be at least 23 & have two kids. No government assistance & have a job. Those are the rules for Maine, I live there.
