My poor boyfriend

posted 13th Dec
Gets a second job, works his butt off, and gets hit by a car on his way home this morning. We're at the ER. Cops were on scene and the driver was at fault. Poor guy flew up on the hood and when the driver stopped he got thrown off... at least they'll pay for his medical bills, but he's worried about work. He's a cook and does stocking, so he's on his feet 6 days a week.. ugh just what we need.

Get a lawyer. If he's out of work you're going to need the other guys insurance company to pay more than just medical bills.

The other person's insurance should compensate for work lost until he's able to work again. Hope he is okay and gets better quick.

I'd only go the lawyer route if the insurance company refuses to pay. There's no reason wasting more money if they're handling it in the manner they should.

The ONLY time I involved a lawyer was when I was in an accident the day I was supposed to get married and his insurance refused to cover me because I wasn't "family". So I had to sue his insurance.

The only time you pay the lawyer is at settlement...generally they get 1/3 of the settlement.

Lawyers make money off of a higher settlement, which gives them initiative to get you more money....you won't lose any more by getting one.. it's silly not to.

It's also ridiculous to be that money hungry and sue happy. If the medical needs, and lost time of work are covered, the rest is just extra that they basically pay to shut people up because society has become so money hungry and sue happy. See the connection?

Insurance companies pay the BARE minimum, which usually won't even cover all medical costs. Also, a lot of injuries from accidents show up days and even months later...what happens at that point? when he's out of work for months...insurance companies won't cut another check...

Exactly. No need to sue unless they refuse to pay the needed things.

No they cut the check once he's back to work. You're ridiculous. Have you even ever dealt with it?
