Intolerance *D&D*

So, I'm sure most of you have seen that picture circulating Facebook of the little boy who picked out the pink zebra shoes for his first day of school. All the kids at school loved his shoes but the adults, however, commented on his mother's picture of the boy with how he's going to turn gay and all that jazz.
I'm now in an argument with some awful woman on a shared post of the photo so I figured I'd make a post.
Would you let your son pick out "girl" shoes/clothes and wear them to school? Why or why not?
quoteposted 13th Dec
Maybe not a dress or anything, but pink zebra shoes like in the story? Eh, why not? Guys wear pink all the time. I thought the shoes were cute.

Damn straight. I think its pretty goofy that the kids loved the shoes but these so called "mature adults" are poking fun at him. If a little girl picked out "boy" shoes to wear, no one would say anything. But as soon as a little boy wants to wear something pink or "girly", he's going to be gay.

My kid can wear whatever he wants anywhere he wants, within reason. Like obviously it's not appropriate for my 6 year old to wear a fishnet bodysuit. But if he wants to wear a DRESS, for all I care, more power to him. He's expressing his individuality.

Yes. Kids should be able to express themselves and not worry about it. Maybe DS will end up being gay (for lack of better wording) or maybe he just likes pink smurf (can't blame him). Who am I to tell him what he likes or doesn't?

That was my argument! My 2 year old daughter LOVES dragons, she's apesmurf about them. Damn right I'd buy her a dragon shirt or shoes if she asked. And of course, no one would have a problem with it because being a "tom boy" is cute.

No I wouldn't. But I certainly wouldn't make fun of anyone sles's child or make snide remarks regarding it either. Your child, your choice.
quoteposted 13th Dec
I will keep this short cause I could go on a rant like you would not believe, LOL
I think a child boy or girl should have the ability to make some choices for themselves without adults telling them they are "wrong". Who in the world stipulated that pink was for girls and blue was for boys?
Children do not know prejudice or judgement so why do the adults (other than the parent) think they have the right to teach that child what to think or how to dress.
ok I am done...lol

It's tough because I know DH doesn't like it, but DS's fav color is pink. He really wants the unicorn pillow pet, lol, and every time I let him pick out the color of something, it's pink. I think for the shoes, I would let him, but like somesone else said, not a dress or a hair bow or something like that. Only if he really really really wanted to wear the shoes though.

Oh please.
I'd let the kid wear the damn shoes. Since when do certain colors and prints "turn" someone gay?

No fishnets? Come on, you're no fun!

In a heartbeat. I'd never make him hide who he really is and what he really wants, as if he should be ashamed.
Hell, I've gotten onsies and t-shirts from the boy's section for DD, and from the boys section for MYSELF, wouldn't I be a hypocrite to not allow my son to have clothes/shoes from the girl's section?
quoteposted 13th Dec
I would let my son pick them out for wearing out and about but not for school. My son can be an "individual" when he's old enough to hold his own. That smurf would follow him through all his school years and I wouldn't want him being called a fag everyday because mom let him wear girl shoes to school. When he's older and understood the (unfortunate) consequences then ya, he can go for it.

I just had this argument with DH the other day. I told him that if we were in a store and Wesley asked for a tea set, or dress up clothes, etc. that I would have no problem with him getting them. DH said, "But that's girl stuff"
I'm perfectly okay with it. If my son was in school and wanted to be a cheerleader or do ballet or dance (another argument DH and I had), more power to him!

Fishnet tights UNDER something that covers his junk, are perfectly okay. ONLY wearing a fishnet bodysuit with his junk hanging out in public, no way.
