Breast feeding question

posted 13th Dec
I've been pumping since my son was born about 2 weeks ago. This morning I pumped and i didnt even fill 1cc. Is my milk drying up?? What should I do?? I've asked others and they said drink more and to make sure I pumped every 2-3 hours for 20 mins. Any advice??

I am the same way. I just pumped and I got maybe a half ounce. it sucks. But eat more, and relax, and drink milk and water. It helps. and pump for 15 minutes on each boob, thts what i do. And in the middle of the night get up and pump too. It helps a lot.
And too help as well have some skin skin contact, it helps with the hormones as well!

Skin to skin. You can take things like brewers yeast, fenugreek, eat oatmeal.

Massage your boob while you pump. and try getting a picture of your Lo to look at while you pump. Are you exclusively pumping or do you nurse as well?

Pumping is no indication of what you actually produce so don't think your supply is hurting at all. Try pumping at least once between the hours of 1am and 5am when the prolactin levels are the highest. You can also do power pumping 10 min on 10 min off for an hour. Mothers milk tea, fenugreek, steel cut oatmeal, lots of water (half your body weight in oz if not more). Try looking at your LO or a picture of them when pumping. Nothing stimulates you like the baby so let them nurse as often and as long as they want.

Also, try compression while pumping, you might be able to get more milk to come out.

Sorry just saw your post that he was born really early. Ask the hospital if you can talk to a LC or find a local LLL (la leche league) meeting. Im sure dealing with a micro-preemie on top of everything else is stressful. Best of luck mama.

some people don't pump effectively...

drink plenty of fluid.. try mother's milk tea or fenugreek.. and the only people I know who successfully ONLY pumped... had to pump every 2 hours when awake and at least once during the night to maintain an adequate milk supply.

Exactly. I can pump for an hour each side and barley get an oz. Yet have no supply issues.

Thank you all!!! As of now I'm exclusively pumping because my baby was born at 25 weeks and 2 days. I haven't been able to hold him yet so no skin to akin contact. I seem to w doing a little better today with pumping though.
