You should just read and tell him about the important parts if need me.

Have him watch a home birth on youtube and just take him to the classes. He might want to stay by your head if he was a weak stomach. SO almost fainted with my hospital birth.

No, he wants to read a book.. And learn how to comfort me. He wants to be involved and to "catch" the baby, our hospital birth is the complete opposite of what we want.

Mine wont read, hell,I can hardly talk to him about it... he sucked at being a support system for my hospital birth too, he kept complaining then falling asleep and snoring...
Thats why Im flying my mom down for this one haha..

I'm reading Ina May "guide to childbirth" right now and it's sooo great. My MW also recommended "The Birth Partner" for him since we won't be taking classes. He reads if I remind him too and I tell him to do 7-10 pgs a day to keep up since he's currently reading "Everything to know for the first year" as a father. We're doing a water birth at the birthing center.

I wasn't a huge fan of Ina Mae. But I LOVED (LOVED LOVED LOVED) Birthing From Within.

I read most of it after my home birth because I ordered it the day I went into labor lol. But the concept seems so much better and helpful to me. There are crafts and art and such that you can do with your partner to become closer and also during labor.

If they have Birthing From Within Classes near you, then I highly recommend the classes since men aren't usually as excited about reading up on pregnancy as the mothers are.

My husband worked on his laptop until the dr said it was time to push, I was so angry! His reasoning is he thought he had plenty of time, but we were at the hospital for less than six hours before I was pushing.. But being at home, he knows he is going to have to learn how to support me. My mother in law is hopefully going to make it down here, she has a ten hour drive, but we just started having a relationship so I don't know how comfortable I will be with her other than her watching my so.

mine was 7 hours, and born on her due date  ! but we were both up for 48 hours right before I went into labor, in the middle of a hectic emergency custody battle for his older daughter ( lonnnnng story)

I told him hes free to just stay out of the way this time haha, I may just throw things at him if I hear him complaining again like last time ;)

I'm surprised the birthing center isn't making you take classes, especially for your first.. The birthing center we went to required them for anyone who did not experience natural birth before.. but my midwife requires them regardless.

The closest classes are four hours away :/
The biggest thing I want to learn is how to kind of take my mind away from what is going on and not focus on the pain. I get eaily worked up and I'm worried how I will react not even having the option of easing any pain.. Although I did pretty good with my first, I didn't make a peep the entire time. I had the epidural, but it didn't tale all of the way, I was still able to walk, and felt my lower body, just not sure how much I actually got.

Actually we are required to take them but we've been short of cash too busy buying baby items. My MW is doing a discount for us of a shorter class because she wants us to take it so much. The Ina May book is awesome.. I learned different techniques that the hospital would consider using technical tools for when all you need is knowledge like the blowing raspberries, the gaskin maneuver, massaging oil on your perineum to avoid tearing during crowning, open kissing your partner during a contraction so you won't feel it since your too busy in the moment of connection, your partner telling you sweet things to open your cervix more, etc. I'm still reading it but have learned so much in two days. We haven't bought the Birth Partner for him yet but we will soon I just hope he reads it like he's supposed too if we do but I've been telling him things to do help me cope that I learned from my book.

Definitely read BFW. I liked it way more thab Ina Mae. Ive read a smurf load of books.
