re: Depression meds, your experience?

I just started lexapro a week ago. I was on it 10 years ago, but the depression came back within the last few years. I didn't think I felt any different until my husband said I was less irritable... things don't annoy me, my mood swings aren't so extreme. Yesterday I felt so energetic, I went to the gym for the first time in months.

I wish therapy were more affordable.   I think that plus the meds are such a huge help.

i've suffered from depression, and a unspecified mood disorder my whole life, pretty much. i've been seeing a Psychiatrist for about 5 years now. we thankfully found the perfect meds that work with me. i take Cymbalta for depression, along with Abilify. it helps with my mood disorder also. i hate taking medicine, but i love who i am a lot more when i'm on them.

I forgot about Abilify. I don't recommend it for many people though.

Yep. It made me and several people in the hospital need to be cathed because we couldn't urinate. Within 48 hours of me getting one dose I couldn't urinate and had a catheter in for 2 months. I had so many catheters that they had to do until they finally did one that stayed in for 2 months. I'm 22 was 21 at the time. And that's the only thing that was different. They put me on a med for elderly gentlemen to get me to be able to urinate but it didn't work. But if its not causing problems for you I'm sure it's fine. We had like 19 patients and 5 or 6 had to be cathed because of Abilify.

I feel like meds would help me big time. I have a hard time swallowing pills though so I need small ones or ones I can crush :/

All of the antidepressants I've been on they've been fairly small

that's crazy.
i haven't had a single side effect from my meds. well except the inability to climax, due to my Cymbalta lol but that wasn't anything very serious. it went away after a couple months like my Psych said it would.

Yea it scared me and frustrated me too. I get all sorts of side effects but on alot of meds so it comes with the territory

I feel more "up", I don't want to cry all the time...I enjoy living again. I enjoy being around people, and taking care of things. I really ENJOY things again instead of just getting through them. It's incredible.

It sounds amazing. And thankfully they are mainly small cuz I cant do horse pills. Thanks for everyone that replied.

Yea some of the meds Ive been on are huge pills and when I was in the hospital they made us take all of our pills at once. So several huge pills and then a couple small ones

Mine are pretty small... I'm take 10mg and I think it's small... a little white circle, pretty thin

Mine are about the size of a tylenol. They're definitely manageable...especially compared to my prenatals! Ugh those suck lol

Im horrible with giant pills lol
