I swear we are in the terrible two's

posted 12th Dec
and she only just turned one. I know she is a smart cookie, but she gets so frustrated over the smallest things. She brings me her sippy cup when it's empty and if I don't move to go fill it right away she throws herself down and screams...Sometimes I'm not even sure what she is wanting. DH just made some sausage links came out to the front room to eat them, and before he even sat down she was screaming because he hadn't given her one yet...normal for this age? How can I start working with her to use her words more? It seems to be only when she wants something but can't say that she wants it and we arn't quick enough to figure out that she wants it. Thanks for the advice

Very normal. She knows what she wants but is unable to vocalise it, and that is incredibly frustrating! They may seem like small things to you, but they're not to her.
Just talk to her, give her words for her emotions and meet her needs as best you can.

Teach her some basic sign so she can communicate with you guys. Sounds like she is frustrated that she can't communicate. My daughter had similar behavior until she learned to sign and then is improved drastically. She was a sign maniac haha   good luck!

Wait till she is 3. Then 2 will look amazing. But that's all normal for a 1 yr old.

Just make her say it before she gets it. Also the basic sign thing is a good idea. The have baby sign language you can Google. I taught DS more and whenever he would do it to other people they would get confused so if you do that be sure to tell other people the signs to. The first major words DS learned were please and thank you. I get compliments all the time about polite he is. It's very normal for her to throw a fit like that. Just keep working with her she will get it (:

We tried signing when she around 6 mos.. she never really got into it and still only rarely signs back. She only knows all gone, up and milk. lol. It's not too late to teach more?

Nope and they are often more receptive at this age as well. I didn't introduce sign until 10 months and by 13 she was on it!

Awesome! Thank you, I honestly would have never put more thought into signing!
