No I didn't and still don't. Partly it's because I just feel too bad if my daughter's sobbing and partly it's because it's just faster to walk her to sleep and if I don't let her CIO, it doesn't wake family members up

Nope.
I could not stand the sound of my baby crying. If she cried I would be holding and soothing her. If I were to let her CIO I would probably have an anxiety attack.

No. Until she was 10 months, she was breastfed to sleep and placed in her crib next to our bed.

From 10 months to 18 months, she went to sleep after drinking warm formula [and later milk] while lying down next to one of us, and then placed in her crib.

From 18 months to 26 months, she was going to sleep lying with us, with or without a bottle of warm milk, and then moved to her toddler bed which is next to our bed.

She's almost 3 years now, and often goes straight to her bed to sleep. No fuss.

Don't see what's so difficult about it. Create an environment that encourages sleep [quiet, dark, but if your LO likes something different, do that instead], and be patient. Easy cheesy.

I will add that I have seen my daughter cry to the point of being really hysterical, like when she's in the car seat and I can't take her out but she wants out, and I could NEVER inflict that on her purposefully. I don't see how anyone can think that would be beneficial.

If only it were that easy for everyone.

Meh. Sometimes you can do everything "right" and still just have a child who you feel CIO may work best for. We did it a little with my son because it worked best for him. He was totally different than our daughter.

It can be that easy for everyone if you start these habits from birth...

Well I kind of lied, when she was developing crawling skills, her sleeping pattern was turned upside down, she started waking up in the middle of the night and needing to be walked to sleep. It lasted about a month but we were glad when everything went back to normal. And BFing was a nightmare.

Sure, for the your kids...
Everyone's kids are different just because it worked well with yours, doesn't mean it will for everyone else's. Sometimes its not as simple as "starting habits" .

That's because sometimes it should begin with breaking the parent's bad habits.

You can argue it till your blue in the face honestly. You have your belief and I have mine.
I didn't have any " bad habits" with my oldest and we still had to CIO. Its not always as simple as starting a "habit".
I mean hooray that it was that easy for you but its really not always for everyone else's children.

Nope. If a baby is crying, they need you.

yes. at 7 months we used it after exhausting all other "more gentle" methods. Worked like a charm and was much faster and easier than i thought it could be. Prior to that we were both sleep-deprived. She was starting to show significant signs of it.
My LO didnt have a typical start as she was colicky until over 5 months. She never really learned how to self-soothe when most babies learn due to screaming for hours on end.

Everyone I know who has started things right from the get go has had success. You just can't be lazy about things.
